Snuff Box circa 1832 Belonged to Wm. S. Wait This is a fantastic piece of history!

This little snuff box has the words: Life of an Actor - A Peep at the Manager, written on the lower center area of the top. The graphics are absolutely wonderful! Inside is a small piece of paper that reads: Wm S Wait Snuff Box Used sometime when he was a boy. There are actually old pieces of snuff in this box!

A bit of research history I found online was that Horatio Lloyd wrote an autobiography on the Life of An Actor. It speaks to the play, The Climbing Boy in 1832 in London at the Olympic Theatre and the Jack Rag Snuff Box that was fashionable at the time.

This piece was purchased at the living estate sale of James Davis of Des Moines, Iowa, who is a decsendant of the family mentioned in the next paragraph. According to Mr. & Mrs. Davis, this was passed down to Mr. Davis from Dr. Jacques Ravold, M.D., of St. Louis, MO.

This information was found online at the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume
35. Mrs. Cornelia Ravold Casey. DAR ID Number: 34753 Born in Greenville, Ill. Wife of George F. Casey. Descendant of Col. Ezra Newhall, of Massachusetts. Daughter of Jacques Ravold and Louisa Wait, his wife.
Granddaughter of William S. Wait and Sarah Newhall, his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of Thomas Newhall and Mahitable Cheever, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Ezra Newhall and Sarah Fuller, (1737-77), his
first wife.
Ezra Newhall, (1733-98), was captain of Continental infantry 1776; major
1777; promoted lieutenant colonel and was brevet colonel at the close of
the war. He was born in Malden; died in Salem.

This snuff box is approximately 3.5 inches in diameter and approximately 5/8 inch thick.
