Married couple cabinet card This is a group of two cabinet cards, one with a married couple and the other perhaps the best man. The men both seem to be sitting on the same chair. They are both faded some and I suspect they are from the early 1900s. They came with others that I currently have for sale. There are no markings to help with identification.

Adorable child with Lace background Cabinet Card This is an adorable child sitting on an object ( a closer look makes me think it is a highchair) that is draped with beautiful lace. The expression on the childs face is priceless, and the outfit is adorable as well. The boots really stand out against the background. There are no identifying marks/names on the card. I suspect early 1900s and southern Iowa for origination.

Click for more detail...

Family grouping includes Ben & Ruth Wells This is a group of five photos dating to around 1900-1910 era, from the Centerville, Iowa area and or the Seymour, Iowa area.

The one of the couple is marked R.C. Link of Centerville, IA as the photographer and there is a handwritten name of Ben & Ruth Wells on the back.

The single one with the young lady that has a corsage on her left shoulder is marked Bancroft of Seymour, Iowa as the photographer, no handwritten name of the young lady. However, the next photo also seems to be her as well, and it is also marked Bancroft of Seymour, Iowa. Inside this one are 2 small pictures that seem to be the young lady from the couple picture and the young lady with the corsage at an older age. The small photo of the even younger girl, may be a child of either young lady (only a guess).

James Coombs and Amanda Coombs Memorial Card This is a memorial card made by H.F. Wendell of Leipsic, Ohio. The family is that of James Coombs and Amanda Coombs. This couple was from the Seymour, Iowa area (Wayne County). James is born 27 Mar 1834 and died 1 Feb 1910. Amanda is born 1 Feb 1844 and died 14 mar 1893.

The picture you will see has been lightened so that you can read it. It is actually very black in color with nice gold trim. I also have a copy of a family search I did on James which I will include for you.

Many of the pictures I have on my site seem to stem from this family.

Click for more detail...

O. B. Halstead Cabinet Cards...set of 3 This is a set of 3 different cabinet cards, all photographed by O.B. Halstead, of Unionville, Missouri, in the late 1800s.

I believe the gentleman in all 3 are one in the same. There is only one marking in pencil and it is on the one of him by himself, noted "Taken May 26, 1890".

I also believe the woman is the same woman in both...a wedding portrait and then a family portrait.

Mr. O.B. Halstead was a somewhat famous person. I researched him a little and found that he is a descendant to King William of Holland and he had geneaology papers to prove that and fought for $300,000 in land in New York City in the late 1800s. Interesting!!

Click for more detail...

Orvil McClurg Cabinet Card Style This is an interesting hairstyle for a young man, and the handwritten name on the back is that of Orvil McClurg or McClung.

There is no name for the photographer, however, the lower right corner does have an impressed mark. I would describe it as a hand holding an arrow with a small piece of twisted rope at the arm's elbow, with this all situated above a shield that has a crescent shaped moon in the top right and lower left quadrants. The top left and lower right quadrants of the shield have lines. I don't know if this relates at all to Civil War era, or just significant to the photographer.

I suspect this young man to be from southern Iowa based on others from the same estate.
