Vintage Camp Fire Girl Indian Costume with Patches
This is an early Camp Fire Girl Indian dress/uniform/costume done in the khaki linen-type fabric with leather fringe. The leather is still quite supple on this piece. There are several leather patches attached to the bottom of this piece, and they all seem to be a painted, hand-made patch, which I tend to believe dates this a bit older.
Information provided to me by family of the estate from which I acquired this was that it belonged to the wife's husband's mother and they dated it to 1920s.
The length of this piece is approximately 40" long. The width from shoulder seam to shoulder seam is 14" and the neck opening measures 16" from the top button around the neck and back to the top button. This would probably fit someone in the age range of 7-10 years old.
Condition is pretty good for nearly 80 years old. Fringe is supple and the fabric has areas that are darkened. Some of the patches are attached from the underside with safety pins and it looks like a couple of patches are gone.
