LS76
Leather strap by J.M. Bucheimer Company, Towson, MD This is a leather goods item with the name Mohican at the top of the strap.
The bottom of the strap is marked, "J.M. Bucheimer Company Towson, MD" in gold lettering.

This piece measures about 24" overall length and is about 2.25" wide. There is a silver metal piece at the top, which I do not know its purpose. The leather is actually pretty supple for its age. There are about 5 gouges of some sort in the leather between the top metal piece and the bottom. The piece that hangs off of this larger section, where the maker name is, is worn some, mostly in the center. The underside of the leather has another strap the same length and its more like a woven reinforced type fabric (reminds me a little of old ace bandage material).

The following paragraph came from internet research and it was information provided by a fellow who had lived in Cockeysville, which was up the road from Towson as he put it.

The original Bucheimer company used to occupy a corner on York Road at the north end of Towson, Maryland (corner of York and Joppa Roads) and sold very high quality leather goods to the Maryland horse crowd.

Further internet research provided the following information obtained through the Chamber of Commerce at Towson, MD:

Circa 1913 the building, known as the Six Mile House, was torn down. This building had been in existence for 'nearly a century' according to the article they gave me.

Based on that information, I'd feel confident in saying this item dates to before 1913.

This company made a variety of items according to research, such as leather billies (used in prisons), weapon holsters, and items for horses.

This came from a family who inherited many items that date around the turn of the century. There are at least 3 generations in that family that passed items down to the people from whom I acquired this piece. Family history traces their roots back to the New York and Pennsylvania areas.
