14k Mourning Ring Unsigned Mourning jewelry reached its height in popularity around 1860. Prince Albert died and Queen Victoria went into deep mourning requiring all subjects to wear mourning attire on special occasions for three years. This mourning ring is a size 8 1/4, 14k (marked 585 which is the mark for 14k in England. Face of ring marked with the initials AW in very pretty script. The hair on the right side of the ring, if you are facing the ring, has frayed a little bit, still a very unique ring. Very hard to come by. Price is reflective of this.

Mourning Ring 14k This is a mourning ring, probably dates around 1840. Original patina of victorian rose gold. Is a closed compartment ring with flaps on both sides covering a channel set in the ring which holds plaited light brown or blond hair. When these flaps are closed the ring look like a gold wedding band. Could have been for a man, size 9. Meaures 1/4 inch wide and weighs 3.3Gm. Tested with acid and stone to be 14k. The ring has a gorgeous victorian design on the flaps. The ring still closes, but as I tried to show in the photos the inside flap has worn thru in places. Cannot be seen when ring is closed. The wearing is probable from being opened and closed so many times, which, I am sure, has been several times since the ring is over 150 yrs old. There is a name on the inside of the band written in script. It is either A. Aacklandberg or A. Tacklandberg. This ring is a real treasure and anyone who collects victorian or edwardian would be glad to have it.
