Hand Carved Leopard - Dated 1868 Folk Art Toy
Hand carved wood leopard dated 1868 would have been an Amish boy's toy. Found near Landaster, PA. A leopard is not the animal normally carved by the PA Dutch which makes it rare. Note that the painted black spots around the mid-back area have faded because from handling while and the wood itself has a patina from age on the top from exposure (under belly doesn't). The face which is pure American Folk Art. Purchased in Lancaster, PA at an estate sale.
Size: 15 1/2 inches long; 6 inches high at the ears.
