Plaque, Gathering of Town Folk - PATE-SUR-PATE 19th C
This is a 19th-century porcelain-decorating method featuring relief designs achieved by painting layers of thin pottery paste one on top of the other. About 1880, Marc Solon and other Sevres artists experimented unti pate-sur-pate was perfected. This 5 in X 6 1/4 in plaque has many fine details which I tried to capture. A couple of darker areas I believe were painted when created. The asking price on this antique is the value listed in the Warman's Antiques Price Guide 33rd Edition. Serious offer will be considered.
