History on Toasting Forks; in Georgian times a toasting fork was an item in daily use. It was used to toast crumpets or bread in the fireplace for buttered toast or toasted cheese sandwiches. Travel toasting forks would have telescoping handles that could be shortened to make them less unwieldy to transport. They helped many a soldier or traveler to make stale bread more palatable.
The German Pastor, Carl Philip Moritz, was delighted by the English invention, toast. "There is a way of roasting slices of buttered bread before the fire which is incomparable," he wrote." One slice after another is taken and held to the fire with a fork till the butter soaks through the whole pile of slices. This is called toast". --Moritz, Carl Philip. A toasting fork is mentioned in the Capel Letters. In Wives and Daughters, Molly Gibson and her father love to make toasted bread and cheese in the fireplace

Lock –Mortise-All Components –Hardware–East Lake Style As a dealer, and store owner I use to sell quite bit of antique and vintage furniture, doing shows throughout the east, dealers were looking for all kinds of hardware to bring their furniture back to original condition. This excellent antique "Lock Set".

Here is a wonderful vintage "door/cabinet lock", complete with all its pieces including the key. The last owner of this lock, a fellow dealer, had all the parts to this door lock in a zip lock bag, neatly tucked away waiting for its use.

This vintage lock measures 3 7/8 inches by 3 5/16 inches, there are additional measurements shown in the pictures below, all components, including the key are there including the smallest of screws.

Thermos / Decanter – Aluminum – Regaid – English Here is a wonderful vintage aluminum Thermos/ Decanter made in England by "Regaid", this splendid thermos comes with a screw on top with handle.

This vintage thermos measures 9 1/8 inches tall with lid, 3 7/8 inches wide and 2 3/8 inches deep, the opening is 1 ½ inches in diameter. On the bottom of the canteen is marked "Registered Design" we were unable to capture this in a photograph.

Box-Playing Cards – Vintage – Dogwood Motif Here is a wonderful vintage "Playing Card" Box with a raised relief dogwood flowers. Though this delightful box was made for playing cards, this little box would be a great accessory for a desk to hold stamps, paper clips, etc.

This vintage box measures 5 ¾ inches long, 4 ½ inches wide and stands 2 inches high and the inside depth is 1 1/8 inches. Most likely used when playing bridge was so in vogue for women this little box has been used and shows it wear as indicated in the pictures below. Though I think the "worn state" of this little box only adds to the rich patina giving age and warmth.

Another use for this vintage "Playing Card Box" would be to use it to store your keys in placed on a kitchen desk.

Walking Cane – Brass – “Mother of Pearl” Insert At a recent auction we were able to purchase this wonderful "Brass Walking Cane". This beautiful cane has so much detail the "swirl brass" the heavily floral embossing found on handle is truly exquisite.

This vintage "walking cane" quite long measures 39 ¼ inches long, the center is ½ inches in diameter and is hollow, the handle is 5 ½ inches long, 4 inches wide and has been repaired, you will also find the initials read "E.D." engraved on the handle. The wonderful inserts of the "mother of pearl" are 2 inches long and there is a missing piece to a section of the mother of pearl.

This vintage leather case, made in the USA, is found in excellent condition with all the pieces accounted for. The case measures 7 inches long, 5 inches wide, 1 ¼ inches deep, the game board is 4 ½ square and 3/8 inches deep. The case is made of a hand stitched leather and made by and marked "Lowe of New York", "Top Grain Cowhide Leather".

Binoculars Field Glasses Original Case Astro –Paris We have several sets of collectible binoculars / opera glasses recently listed, all made in France, many from Paris, if this pair of collectible binoculars caught your eye please be sure to search our shop for other binoculars and opera glasses all made in France.

Here is a wonderful set of binoculars / field glasses found with its original leather case both in wonderful condition and the glasses are in good working condition.

The measurements are as follows; the leather strap when extended measures 27 inches long from the bottom of the case, the top of the case is 5 ¾ inches wide and 5 ½ inches high and 2 ¾ inches deep. The glasses measure 4 inches wide and 4 ¾ inches high closed. Marked as found in the photographs below; "Astro", "Made in France", "Paris" just a few notes that are imprinted on the glasses from the manufacturer.

This set of binoculars / field glasses are in good working condition and would be a wonderful accessory hung over the back of a chair or set within a bookshelf. If you are a bird watcher, keep this set of binoculars close to reach for easy close up view of the unique birds that might visit your bird feeder. Bowl Wood Handmade Turned Wood Camphor Artist Signed Bowl Wood Handmade Turned Wood Camphor Artist Signed ; the art of turning wood is such an aged art, the artist never truly knows the inter detail of the wood as he/ she begins their art of turning the wood into a piece of art. Here is a handsome beautifully turned bowl signed by the artist "Bob Free" who resides in Woodstock Georgia.

The bowl made of Camphor Wood has such a beauty to it with the different degrees color found in this piece, truly making this an exquisite piece of art. The bowl measures overall 9 1/8 inches in diameter, with a 1 inch lip, the bowl stands 2 ¾ inches high and the inside diameter is 7 1/8 inches.7 ½ inches in diameter. Signed by the artist "Bob Free" and dated "1998" on the bottom, making this piece an original piece of art.

It is always wonderful to collect art, the "one of a kind" pieces, however when the piece of art actually has a function, such as this wooden bowl, it makes it even more special.
