I have sold many vintage combs from our collection with just a few remaining; however the prize of the collection is still available for sale to our customers. This gorgeous Celluloid Comb is one that I bestow the most. The exquisite detailing of the head of this comb with scroll work and beading makes this an exceptional find.

The comb measures as follows; 5 ¼ inches long, and the decorative head is 1 ½ inches wide, the length of the decorative head is 2 ¼ inches long, circa late 1800’s.

For the lovers of the Victorian era, when women took such care in their dressing and detailing to their accessories and jewelry this exquisite comb would be a jewel to your collection of vintage hair accessories.

Some HISTORY; Queen Elizabeth started the era of women wearing decorative combs as part of their dress with her wearing her tiara as part of her dress, women then started wearing decorative head dressing and decorative combs as part of the fashion set by Queen Elizabeth. Now such a collector’s item, this Vintage Bakelite Comb is a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection of antique and vintage combs.

Celluloid: The earliest synthetic plastic as celluloid discovered in mid 1850's but developed in the early 1870 by John Wesley Hyatt from nitro-cellulose and camphor. He hoped to find a material for billiard balls. But the celluloid he found was too brittle, but by the end of the century was widely used for all sorts of household items including buttons and shuttles.
