Circa: Unknown
Manufacturer: Noritake Circa 1918
Cup Saucer China Noritake Vintage Circa 1918 Hand Painted; I had not been a "fan" of cups and saucers, however in acquiring quite a few from estates and auctions I am truly starting to see the value in this wonderful medium of collecting hand painted china. This beautiful design found on both sides of the inside of this cup and also on the edge of the handle matching the pattern of the saucer makes this set quite exquisite.

Here is a wonderful cup and saucer made by Noritake of Japan that circa between 1918 and 1920.

This exquisite cup and saucer, hand painted is in excellent condition; it is hard to believe that this piece of china is close to 100 years old.

The set measures as follows; the saucer is 5 ½ inches in diameter, the cup measures 3 ½ inches in diameter, stands 2 5/8 inches high and the base is 1 7/8 inches in diameter. The cup placed on the saucer stands 2 5/8 inches high. The cup and saucer marked "Noritake", "Japan", "Hand Painted", this Noritake mark dates from 1918 to 1921. We have included some history on Noritake for your review.

History; Since 1904, Noritake has been bringing beauty and quality to dinner tables around the world. Superior artistry and craftsmanship, attention to detail and uncompromising commitment to quality have made Noritake an international trademark during this past century.

The Noritake of today grew out of a trading company that was originally established by the Morimura Brothers in New York in 1876. This trading company imported chinaware, curios, paper lanterns and other gift items. In 1904, the forerunner of the Noritake Company was established in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The goal of this first factory was to create western style dinnerware for export. It took until 1914, however, to create the first porcelain dinnerware plate that was suitable for export.

The earliest dinnerware plates were mostly hand-painted, often with liberal applications of gold. By the early 1920's, Noritake introduced assembly line techniques which allowed for mass production of high quality, yet affordable dinnerware. In the ensuing decades, Noritake continued to perfect it's production capabilities and expand to markets world-wide.

Today, Noritake is an acknowledged leader in tableware manufacturing and marketing with subsidiaries, factories and affiliates around the world. Our products are sold to customers in over 100 countries and are used in hotels, restaurants and airlines throughout the world.
