Ant01

Antique Church Stained Glass Window Saints Four Gospels Beautiful antique stained glass hinged window. It features the four gospel Saints, Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Below the Saint images, it reads "In memory of of Alfred F Masury, gift of John M Slattery". Our research tells us that this piece originated from the Boston area, probably in the late 1930’s or early 1940s. We believe that Alfred F Masury mentioned was from Danvers, and is actually Alfred Fellows Masury who designed the powerful machine to be known throughout the world as the Mack Truck and also the famous Bulldog ornament. John M Slattery we believe is the Father of Actor John Slattery. We know that Masury was alive in 1933, so we are just guessing on the age of the window as 1940. Artist is unknown; it measures in frame 48 x 24 inches. Amazingly there is only one cracked piece that we found; it is one of the rectangular edge pieces next to the frame above Saint mark. The frame is tongued and grooved.
Story of the Image;
The first books of the New Testament scriptures are the four gospels of the Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The gospels tell of the life and teaching of Jesus. The gospels were written by the Disciples of Christ, to bear witness to the fact that Jesus of Nazareth is indeed the promised Messiah-Christ of Israel and the Savior of the world. The gospels of Saints Matthew, Mark and Luke are called the synoptic gospels, which means that they "look the same" Each begins with Jesus baptism by John, and His preaching in Galilee. Each centers on the apostles confession of Jesus as the promised Messiah of God, with the corresponding event of the transfiguration, and the announcement by Christ of His need to suffer and die and be raised again on the third day. Each ends with the account of the passion, death, resurrection and ascension of the Lord.

Circa: 1940
