Metlox was a manufacturer of ceramic housewares based in Manhattan Beach, California. It was founded in 1927 by T. C. Prouty and his son Willis. In 1931, Willis renamed the company to Metlox Pottery and began producing dinnerware.The first line of pottery produced, Poppytrail, well known for its brightly colored glazes derived from locally mined metallic oxides and talc from Death Valley. Subsequent lines included Nostalgia,Red Rooster, California Provincial, Colonial Homestead, Homestead Provincial, and Colorstax. A line of ceramic miniatures called Poppets was produced in the mid 1970's. Metlox ceased operation in 1988. The page image is a really cool Poppytrail canister set ! Groovy man |
