Rose Medallion is a pattern in a group of patterns called “famille rose,” originally from China. It was coined by Jesuit priests in the late 1700s for a group of porcelain that had pink colors in it.
In the pink family the most popular pattern became Rose Medallion, a design centering around a circle with a flower inside. That flower is not a rose, but a peony. (rose if french for pink) Pictured is a beautiful antique rose medallion Teapot
