Diecast toys were first produced early in the 20th century. The first models were basic and because Zamak alloy was used, they suffered metal fatigues. As a result, diecast toys made before Worl War II are difficult to find in good condition.
The popularity of diecast toys as collectibles developed in the 1950's as their detail and quality increased. During the 1960s various companys began to use diecast vehicles as promotional items for advertising.

Vintage Schuco Micro Racer 1040 Ferrari, Red
This car was introduced in 1954, the particular model was made before 1964 as it is marked :Made in U.S. Zone Germany." Along with the 1041 and 1042 Midgets, these were the fastest picket rockets available and highly prized on the playground. This particular example is in good condition. It has paint loss and is missing the rear wheels, although the gray wheels are the older style. All other parts are in place and mechanically it is in excellent condition. I believe the tires can be replaced. The price is discounted because of the missing tires.
