Limoges porcelain was actually produced by as many as 48 companies in the region in France known as Limoges. Many pieces are marked by not only Limoges, the point of origin, but maker's marks and sometimes the name of the painter. Many of these pieces were "blanks" that were sent to decorating studies or shipped outside France. Many of these blanks were painted by Victorian women learning the art of china painting. That is why the quality of the decoration often determines value.
