Antique Sky Blue Milk Glass Lightning Ball Vintage - Sky BLUE GLASS LIGHTNING ROD BALL
4 inches by 4 inches in diameter, this vintage lightning rod ball is made of heavy sky glass colored milk glass. The body is excellent, with no visible damage, but as is so common on these old lightning balls, both ends have some chips and rough edges. The copper end caps cover this damage completely and at the same time keep fingers safe while handling. A nice vintage ball, ready to be used again as intended, or shown off in your collection!!
PS> I like to add a small light bulb inside these glass balls. They give off a lovely glow.

Vintage Copper Angel. Cherub & Horn Weather Vane Perhaps this angelic cherub is the Angel Gabriel, the way he might have looked the first time he raised his horn to play. There is no name to identify this lovely childlike angel and no marks to tell us who fashioned this beautiful figure from two sheets of solid copper. Whoever the maker, it was a craftsman who had learned his trade well. From the weight and thickness of the copper, along with the depth and color of the metal’s patina, I think it fair to say this winged cherub with a horn is much older than most would say if guessing the child’s age. I would say he is probably 50 years old, if not a bit more. I don’t imagine a vane like this a one would have been found back in the late 1800’s, but then again, I wasn’t around then to know. This little angel is really not little at all. He measures close to 30 inches from the tip of his horn to the end of his foot and comes close to being 3 inches wide at his thickest places. The height from his mounting bar to the top of his wings is roughly 17 inches, so he is a full size weathervane to be sure. I can find no breaks or weak spots in the tin solder that joins his two halves and he is solidly set on his mounting bar, so if you want, this fellow is ready to go back up on the roof and do his work…., or maybe its time to take him inside and let your friends meet this cute angel face to face. He would make a fine accent piece and a worthy display for any situation. I have included a set of brass directional arms and an antique stand that brings the top of his wings to a height of 62 inches above the floor. If you decide you want this fine looking cherub and need a stand for some different height or situation, we will work with you to get you exactly the right piece to do the job. If you do not need a stand or directionals, we can offer a small discount from the listed price and likely save you a good deal of money on shipping as well. The world can always use another angel…

Antique. Copper Running Horse Weather vane - Old This gorgeous old copper horse has an incredible color and patina that only the passing years can create. There are no names or markings to identify the maker of this large copper horse, but he is almost twice as heavy as those reproduction vanes we have all seen out there. One thing is for sure. They do not have the same character as this fine original piece. Based on his weight, and the way he was put together, I believe this horse was hand made by a skilled coppersmith sometime between the early 1900's and WWII. His birthday is likely closer to the early 1900's than to the war, but without any more to go on than is at hand, that is about as close as I can get to establishing his age. The horse is nearly 30 inches long and without the stand, is already near two feet high. Including the stand and directional unit, our friend measures almost five feet from top to bottom. A very impressive piece of early folk art that would surely gather more than a little attention from those who are fortunate enough to see this lovely running horse.
Please Note: if you plan to mount this beautiful old vane on your house or barn, please ask for information about proper grounding of this vane.

brswvquil110

Vintage Copper Quill Pen Weathervane I don't know the maker or when this lovely copper weathervane fashioned in the shape of an early Feather Quill Pen, but I can tell you a good deal about it just from what I see. The piece is obviously hand made; the quill shaft is copper that has been hammered to copy the taper of a feather. The feathers are also clearly hand shaped and seem to me to have been repaired or re-attached more than once in different areas. The ball on top seems to be solid and likely part of the original design. I would say that below where the copper feather quill joins the vertical copper support rod, the second hollow ball, brass bass piece, flat brass plate and the hardwood stand were added when the weathervane came off the roof for the final time and was made into a piece of folk art. Overall the piece is about two feet high by two feet wide with an eight-inch wide dark reddish wooden base or stand. Quite a lovely piece and most likely one of a kind. > Free shipping within the continental US.

Netti's Egg Bowl Here is a simple yet strikingly beautiful oil painting which may well bring back memories of special times and dear loved ones. This painting was done in oil on art board and beautifully framed to match another similar work listed in this same catagory called Tea and cherry turnovers.
This lovely piece features a lovely bowl that had long been used for collecting the farm fresh brown eggs it contains. The painting itself measures 12 x 16 and is mounted in a lovely, self boarder frame made of solid wood.
Memories make the best pictures, I think.

Summertime - Original signed Oil Painting This talented young painter who signs his work simply, Joey S, offer for sale this lovely Oil Painting titled summertime. It is hard for a flat screen showing a duplicated picture of a flat, digital photo to truly capture the depth or the subtle colors and textures one finds when looking directly into the painting itself. The fruit, red ripe, crisp apples makes me want to eat one every time I see this still life. His choice of background coloring is as complex as it is beautiful. I love toy hear what you think of this piece. To me it is a perfect image, the likes of which one would find hanging on the wall as you enter a huge country kitchen that has been owned by the same family since the times when our nation was fresh and new and filled with the glory and beauty of a perfect summer.
The painting size is 12x 12 and with the frame measures 16 x 16

Antique Gilbert Chemistry Set C 1936 nearly complete Wow! Talk about unique.... Here's an original Gilbert Chemistry Outfit dated 1936. When I first saw it, I said to myself, "what a great old box." Then I opened the box and was amazed to find almost all of the original pieces that came with the set were inside. The attached photos show several empty spaces where a test tube or tool of some sort had been, but there are not many. For the most part its all here and all with the original labels from 1936.

Detailed description of set -
THE BOX IS SOLID, STURDY AND IN FAIR CONDITION. THE LATCH LATCHES GOOD, THE WHITE SPECKS YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE PAINT SPECKS WHERE SOMEONE PAINTED THE ROOM THE CHEMISTRY BOX WAS IN AND FAILED TO COVER THE BOX.

THE ALCOHOL BURNER COMES WITH HOLDER.

WRITTEN ON THE 4 GILBERT ENVELOPES IS:
NO. 18 CONGO RED PAPER, NO 14 CALCIUM SULPHIDE PAPER, NO. 52 SULPHIDE TEST PAPER, AND NO 6 AND 41 RED & BLUE LITMUS PAPER. THERE IS PIECES OF PAPER IN EACH OF THE 4 ENVELOPES. I AM ASSUMING EACH ENVELOPE HAS THE PROPER PAPER IN THE PROPER ENVELOPE. I CERTAINLY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT KIND OF PAPER IS IN THE ENVELOPES.

MOST, IF NOT ALL, OF THE GLASS BOTTLES WITH RED METAL LIDS, ARE FULL, NEAR FULL, OR HAVE SOME KIND OF SUBSTANCE IN THEM. THE PAPER LABEL IS GOOD ON ALL BOTTLES. THERE ARE SEVERAL GLASS VIALS WITH GOOD LABELS, AND SUBSTANCE IN THEM. THERE ARE THREE (3) YELLOW METAL VIAL HOLDERS, SEE PICTURE WHERE SOME YOUNG CHEMIST MIXED AND SPILLED STRONG CHEMICALS ON ONE (1) OF THE YELLOW METAL VIAL HOLDERS AND EATEN AWAY THE METAL BETWEEN THE TWO TOP HOLES. THERE ARE A FEW EMPTY GLASS VIALS NO LABELS, & A FEW GLASS STIRRING STICKS, AND ASSORTED GLASS TUBING, SPOON, BOTTLE BRUSH, AND A TOOL FOR HOLDING HOT VIALS.

If you are looking for something that's totally unique, this is an amazing old piece that would be a wonderful gift or something out of the ordinary to add to your collection. I promise this old chem set to be an extremely effective conversation piece.

SFOBJ132

Framed Original Music - Old Black Joe by S. Foster Original early sheet music of Stephen Foster’s song, Old Black Joe. This DeLuxe, hand colored edition of the Foster tune was printed by Armstrong Music Publishing Company of New York way back in the early 1900’s, but still retains the sharp detail and bright color that made Armstrong a premiere New York City publishing company. The piece is complete and even bears the hand stamped location and name of the music shop where it was originally purchased. ( see lower right hand corner) Someone later realized the value of this rare old piece and placed it into this wonderful old oak frame for safe keeping. There are a few light water stains on the cover, but the graphics are incredibly clear considering the age of this old item. There is a number 5 printed on the front cover which I have been told was likely done to signify this as being the fifth copy printed of the Foster song. Usually the first 100 pieces printed, at least by well known artists like Stephen Foster, would be so numbered in order to encourage a large turnout for the publications release. There is also something that was hand written on the top left portion of the front page, but I can not make out what it says. Perhaps this was signed by Foster or some other note-worthy musical celebrity of the day? Whatever else might one day be learned about this old document, one thing is certain, this large framed piece of early 1900’s musical history is a wonderful piece of art to be treasured. Actual size of the sheet music is 11 x 14 inches. Frame measures approximately 16x 20

Bi-Plane in Flight - Signed Folk Art - Vane This great old tin bi-plane was salvaged from a York County farm in the process of being destroyed to make room for another cookie cutter housing project. Based on the construction of the old tin Bi-Plane, Mr. Picker determined it to have been part of a weathervane or roof top display. The plane measures 15 inches in length and is a one of a kind, hand made sculpture in tin. The original black paint is still mostly intact and the plane is a solid, well constructed piece that will last for many years to come. Mr. Picker married the old plane to a gorgeous base. The antique copper funnel is a farm site salvage and has survived beautifully. The deep reddish brown color of the funnel's patina is a fantastic compliment to the plane. Standing 24 inches high, this great piece is signed by JM Picker and is a true one of a kind

Old Copper Fish Wall Hanging - 1 side - sign I believe this olf copper fish, or better I should say again, Half of a fish, is actually one side of a two sided copper fish weathervane. Perhaps the company who made the weathervanes also sold the halves individually, but this piece has never been outside except when it traveled from store to home, to home, to auction, etc. The fish is a solid sheet of heavy copper and the detailing is very good. This would make a great wall hanging for someone's rec room, office, den, store, anywhere that you want to draw the attention of others. twenty seven by about eight inches with a hole through the top fin that was used to hang him.

VTC321

Vintage Trout Fishing Creel — Antique Wicker & Leather Beautiful vintage wicker and leather fishing creel in fantastic shape! This great old creel was purchased from a gentleman who remembered first seeing it when he was about ten years old . That was the first time he’d gone trout fishing with his grandfather and in all the years since, it had been the only creel he’d ever seen the old man carry. If only this creel could talk, it could tell us about all those magical mornings spent along the legendary trout streams of central Pennsylvania. Streams like the LeTort and Penn’s Creek, before the arrival of trucking terminals and toll roads. Well known waters like the Yellow Breeches and secret gems like Big Spring or Mountain Creek. I envy the folks who had the chance to fish those fabled streams back in those long gone days of glory.
The owner of this creel clearly took very good care of it. The leather is supple with minor scuffs and wear from use and the wicker is strong and tight enough to spend at least a couple more decades carrying supper home from the stream. I have tried to take a lot of pictures to show the great condition and beauty of this creel, but If you have questions or want additional pictures, I can take others and email them to you. Here are the dimensions: 14" long, 5 1/2" wide and 9" high. I do not see any name or markings, but this is obviously a quality creel. Oh, I chose not to clean the few remaining scales left by some lovely trout who once had served as dinner.

Sun Tinted - Amethyst Milk Glass Lightning Rod Ball Here is another glass lightning rod or weather vane ball that is absolutely gorgeous. This antique ball started out in life a plain white milk glass color, then was changed by time and the light of the sun into this wonderful mix of swirling amethyst shades. There is some wear around the collars, but the copper caps are more than enough to keep them safe. measurement on this ball 4 1/2" round x 5 1/2 " end to end . Once you've decided on where to display this classic old piece of americana, try putting a tiny light up inside of it. I think you'll love the way it glows.

Old Folk Art Tin Rooster Weathervane and Stand What an excellent looking old tin Rooster. This fellow has lost all but the faintest traces of what must have been his original paint, but looks great with the time worn patina earned through years of strutting across some rooftop in all sorts of weather. I would guess this old bird probably dates to about the 1950's or early 60's, but because he is the only one of this design I have ever seen, it is pretty much impossible to specifically pinpoint his age. The Rooster is slightly loose on his perch, but rather than risk damaging this fine looking fellow, we decided he was more than sturdy enough and left him attached to the mounting bar as found.
Including his rusted iron stand, this Rooster stands about 40 inches high and is 23 inches from tail to the tip of the copper mount. I would not want to guarantee just how long he might remain on his perch should he be placed back outside on a roof top, but if used for decoration or displayed as primitive art, I see no reason why this bird would ever wish to leave his familiar perch.

Copper Goose Weather Vane - Folk Art Fantastic! Rare. Wonderful. Lifelike. Historic. A jewel from the past. These are just a few of the thoughts that came to mind as I sat down to write this description. Perhaps in the end it will be the pictures themselves that are able to fully and most fittingly describe this beautiful old copper weathervane figure of a full size Canadian Goose in flight. Long ago this bird began as two separate sheets of copper that were hand crafted and then carefully matched to one another and joined by tin solder to create this incredibly lifelike goose. Imagine how this majestic bird must have looked to a passer by, flying above the roof of some wonderful old house in 19th Century New England. Incredible.
The body of this large bird measures 29 inches from tip to tail and the distance from the top of the left wing down to where the body joins the mounting tube is 17 inches. Only copper was used to create this fine old weathervane goose and as the years rolled by, the copper naturally darkened with age as a gorgeous green-blue patina of verdigris also formed to blend beautifully with the deep brown copper of this great vane.

No matter how you choose to display this stunning antique goose; Inside or out, one thing is a certainty, this piece is nothing short of a work of art and deserves a chance to be appreciated, delighted in and most of all, displayed.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you my have about this wonderful antique goose, or ask to see a list of authentic, in stock lightning rod balls. We have a wide range of styles and colors available. We also offer vintage original directionals, lightning rods, rod stands and while they last, I still have a couple early 1900's tin finials that came off an old warehouse in Baltimore that would be a perfect base on which to mount this old goose. When it comes to antique and vintage architectural pieces, there is just no end to the treasures waiting to be discovered here at at Picker's Treasures.
