Rare Photographer's Dark Room Oil Lantern C1900 Here is a very unusual old oil lantern from the early 1900's. This old lamp is a photographer's Dark Room lamp. It is in quite nice condition for its age and comes complete with a darkening shutter, and a red glass lens. The lens has turned to more of an orange color over time, but the glass is original and in good shape. The lamp was made by the RO&C co. and is called a Universal No'2. This information is found on the black out shutter. There is even an adjustable draft vent on the top and what is really rare, the filler cap, wick, burner and even the latch that holds the lamp shut are all in good working order. There is a finger loop for carrying the lamp too.
If you have someone special who is also into photography, this little old lamp would make a great gift.

Cresolene Vapo Oil Lamp C 1880 - quack medical Here is a rare old oil lamp. This tiny little lamp comes with a stand, as well as a small tin dish is a Vapo Cresolene vapour lamp. The lamp was filled with oil or kerosene and the small tin dish you see would be filled with a product; (not included) called Cresolene.
The lamp would heat this gooey stuff and as it did, it produced the amazing cresolene vapours, which the maker claimed could be used to treat diphtheria, whooping cough and just about anything else. This seems like a product in the style of the cure all quack medicines, which were rife at that time in the U.S. At the very top of the stand there is some patent information, which dates the piece to the mid 1880s. The stand is 15.5cm in height. Everything is in very good condition, with no damage. A very collectible object and a great way to start a conversation.
