Colt Bisley 44 cal. Pistol. antique gun This is a truly rare piece of history. The Colt Bisley model was only made for three years as a true antique revolver. From 1897 to 1899 it was and still is considered a true black powder antique firearm and although Colt did continue to make the Bisley model for a dozen or so years into the early 1900's, none of those guns can claim the same True Antique status that those early pre1898 Bisley enjoy. This gun is one of those extremely rare Colt revolvers. A Colt 1st generation Single Action Army, Bisley Model, with a 5-˝ inch barrel, all matching serial numbers that point to a production date in the year 1898. The large bore 44 40 caliber is the same as the Winchester rifle of that time and many cowboys and outlaws made habit of carrying a sidearm that used the same bullets as did their Winchester rifles. The finish on this Colt is excellent, some cold blue may have been added to the barrel in the distant past, but mostly this gun retains its original blued finish. The grips are worn but still very nice and fit beautifully and most of all, this old Colt works like a dream. Nothing, I mean nothing on earth sounds quite the same as a Colt single action being cocked. The bore is clean and bright and the lands are tall and sharp with minor pitting in the grooves. This is not only a very rare antique; this is also a great shooter! (With the correct loads and guidance. See your local gunsmith for advice.) I doubt the neighbors on any side can say they have one of these in their collections and you can bet that in a few years you'll see the value of this one go right through the roof. They just aren't making any more real antique Colts, so what is left is all there will ever be. Less than 13 thousand Bisley models existed prior to 1898. How many hundred could their possibly be that look like this one? Think about it. JM

45SAA1891

Colt Army. 45 SA. Antique Gun. 1891. Owner Identified Want to know what it was that got me hooked for life on these old Colt SA Army revolvers? It was the sound it makes as you slowly pull back on the hammer. No other pistol in the world can duplicate that same bone chilling sound. None. Only the Colt Peacemaker. Fact is, for me, I'd have to shave that statement down a little further and say only the original, true antique, first generation, pre 1898, made for black powder Colt 1873 Peace Maker is able to make that same exact sound that got me hooked on these guns all those years ago.
If you are a fellow Colt lover, you probably already know what I'm talking about, but if you're not, stop to listen sometime. Once you do, you'll be hooked too.
This fine antique Colt Single Action Army was made back in the year 1891 and comes with a Colt factory letter that actually identifies the man the gun was shipped to back then. Unlike most letters that come back saying the gun you asked about was part of a shipment of xxx guns that went to xxxx & xxxx Inc. on such and such a date, etc. etc. This 45 caliber beauty when right to a Frank Shumann in Memphis Tenn in 1891, so there is no telling what additional history might be available to someone who is dedicated and enthusiastic.
As for the gun itself, I can tell you first hand, it could not have been much nicer, or much more accurate, or have operated more smoothly back in 1891 as it still does today. The mechanics are precise and the feel that comes rushing at you as you pull the trigger has an effect that almost transcends time. As in the letter, this gun has its original 5 and 1/2 inch barrel with the one line Colt address. The address is a little thin at spots, but is still quite easy to ready. 99% of the original nickle finish was worn away long ago and only tiny traces of nickle can be found in area like the edge of the front site and the flat area of the frame against the trigger guard. The metal has aged and darkened slowly into a nice has turned to patina. I would bet this old gun has seen a lifetime of use, but it also was treated with care and respect, which both the physical appearance and the mechanical function prove outright.
The Colt patent stampings on the frame are quite nice, as are the serial numbers, caliber mark on the barrel's left and even the Rampart Colt logo on the frame. The grips are original as well. They are worn almost smooth, but remain as solid as a rock and fit the gun perfectly. There is one kill notch carved into the left grip, which may also prove an interesting part of a research project.
This is not a pristine, spent the last hundred years in someone's dresser drawer type of Colt. This is the good kind. The kind that worked hard and still shoots great today. Looks great too. Believe me, in ten or twenty years you'll be wishing you had bought two or three more just like this one. The fact of the matter regarding antique guns in a few words is this; the well is drying up.... fast

Please be ready to supply proof that you are at least 21 years of age if you plan to buy this gun. Also check your state laws regarding handguns. Remember, in the eyes of the Federal Government, this gun is a true antique and does not require all the paperwork that comes with buying a modern pistol, but some states do not agree, so check yours to be certain.

1890 Pat'd Russell & Erwin Wind Up push button Doorbell Here is a really neat old late 1800's mechanical doorbell. This large and quite loud on iron bell was made by Russell & Erwin of New Britain Conn. and has a patent date of October 21, 1890. Unlike many of these old Victorian bells you may see for sale, which often are missing a part internally, are broken, or do not have the correct type of operator needed in order to actually work, all the bells we sell at Picker's have been tested and are ready to install and use as soon as you get them. If they are not working , we won't list them. This bell has a fancy brass button plate and when your visitor's press the button, the pressure activates a spring loaded rod that releases the bell lock and causes the bell to ring for as long as they are holding in on the button. You might think the bell would need to be wound up all the time, but actually it lasted at our shop for days without needing to be wound, even though my 3 year old grandson could not keep his fingers off the button for more than a few minutes at a time. I'm pretty sure that if it outlasted Remy, it will outlast anyone.
All set up to install on a standard two inch thick exterior door. With only one hole to drill and 5 screws to hold both the bell and the button plate in place, almost anyone can install this great antique door bell in a half hour or less..... Really.

Original S&W No.2 Old Model Revolver - aka No. 2 Army WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE NOTE: WE CANNOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL FOR ANY OF OUR ANTIQUE FIREARMS. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. THANK YOU. JM

Here is a very good-looking Smith & Wesson Old model 2 Army Revolver in good working condition. This old six shot single action, 32 caliber cartridge revolver has a serial number in the 309xx range, which means it well could have been some Civil War Officer's sidearm of choice during that great conflict. The no.2 Army was a favorite of both Officers and enlisted men during the Civil War. The rosewood grips are in very good condition and seem to have around 85% or higher remaining original varnish. The top barrel markings are still fairly clear and readable, but the cylinder patent marks are more worn, meaning I need a magnifying glass to read those. The serial numbers are also worn, but readable and can be found on the butt of the gun. This old S&W tip up style pistol has the usual and very typical slight amount of wobble in the barrel pin, but she locks and cocks like she was only a few years old instead of nearly 150. 6 inch barrel. Brass blade front site. Appears all complete and original and is one of the nicest old no.2 I have seen in a long time.
Must be 21 years of age to purchase.

Click for more detail...
rem189021

Rare 44 Remington SA Army Revolver Model 1890 - C1893 Remington model 1890, SA Army Revolver. One of only 2020 model 1890's ever made. Produced as a successor to Remington's model 1875, these single action army models were made to compete with the wildly popular Colt SAA. Remington's dreams of competing with the Colt SA revolvers never materialized and for that reason the model 1890 Remington Army, which was first introduced in 1891, was discontinued in 1896. The fact that only approximately 2000 guns of this model were made was unfortunate for Remington, but due to their misfortune, this very well made revolver is now one of the most sought after and prized of all Remington handguns. I have always been a Colt man, but in my opinion, this Remington SA Army is equal to the Colt SA Army in every possible way.

The fit, feel and function of this antique revolver are all testaments to the quality of craftsmanship and effort that went into the design. I have several Remington models 1875, and can say without a doubt that the 1890 model shows huge improvements. Remington actually achieved their goal of producing a fitting competitor for the Colt pistols, but the country was shrinking. The days of the Wild Wild West were coming to a close and Remington's effort to compete with Colt simply came too late.

Of those 2000 or so model 1890's made, only a handful remain that can come close to matching the beauty and functionality of this particular revolver. Original in all ways, this 44 40-center fire six-shooter is as good as they get. Not perfect, pristine or bought and then locked away in a drawer for over 100 years, this gun has been there and seen plenty, but whoever used it, new how to take care of a sidearm. The gun has almost no pitting at all and very little in the way of mishandling marks. Yes it is worn, but worn smoothly and no worn enough to ruin the Remington markings or the tight, crisp function of its mechanisms. The factory installed 5 1/2 inch barrel has strong rifling and minimal pitting and shoots strait as an arrow.

The lock up is tight and true. In other words, the gun is a dream to shoot. The grips are worn smooth, and have some areas where they have been repaired, but they are the originals and the Remington logo is still visible, plus they fit tight and just plain feels good in your hand. Traces of the original factory bluing can be found in many of the protected areas, but for the most part that bluing has aged and changed into what is now a wonderful brownish patina. To me this is what an antique revolver is supposed to look like. Used, not abused. Aged, not buffed to bare, shiny metal. Real.

I guarantee this is a true model 1890, not a slick remake of a model 1875, as many really are and if there is a nicer model 1890 Remington out there, I would really like to see it. JM

S&W Model 1 - 3rd issue SA 22 revolver - Antique WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE NOTE: WE CAN NOT ACCEPT PAYMENTS THROUGH PAYPAL FOR ANY OF OUR ANTIQUE FIREARMS. PLEASE PAY BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. THANK YOU. JM

I’ve always been very impressed by the quality of firearms that were available a hundred or even a hundred and fifty years ago. I have several old single actions that go as far back as the Civil War and even before then, and in many cases they still function more than well enough to shoot today; (with the correct type loads and powder that is). Some of the most advanced designs came from Smith and Wesson. Although S&W never were able to come close to Colt in number of guns sold or dollars of profit made, many still consider some of their pistols the Cadillac of guns in their day. Take a small weapon like this Smith & Wesson 22 caliber model 1 – 3rd issue revolver for example. Now this gun is not a museum piece by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still a very simple, basic, extremely dependable design that was far ahead of its time back in the early 1870’s when this 3rd issue model 1 was being made. The seven shot cylinder was a major draw for gamblers and other shady characters that always seemed to have a little pistol like this tucked away in their coat or vest pocket.
The truth is, this particular gun is what I think of as a night and day gun. One side is gorgeous while the other is not pretty in the least. Really the only thing wrong with this old west pocket pistol is the cover (on the side if the frame) which you would remove in order to get at the mechanisms to clean or repair them, was lost at some point in time. I’ll say this, someone did a decent job of shaping a rough replacement cover and it does the job it was intended for, but if you could find an actual S&W side plate, this would still be a pretty nice little 22 revolver to have in your collection. Even as it is now, display the good side and you have a great looking example of an early Smith and Wesson single action pocket pistol.

Please note: This is a true antique, pre 1898 black powder firearm and as such is considered a collectible antique under Federal Law. Please be aware that some states have differing laws pertaining to old firearms. You are responsible to know the laws of your state of residence before purchasing this or any other antique weapon.
