Vintage Haeger Pitcher & Basin. Washstand set. This good looking old washstand set looks so nice together you'd never think the two pieces weren't made for each other, but the markings are not the same, so even though they match beautifully, and are both made by Haeger, they are a mismatched set.
Now that I have that part out of the way, let me say these pieces are done in a classic Victorian style that will enhance whatever piece you set them on to display them. There are some old finish cracks that are simply a fact of life with old pottery and in my thinking, adds to the beauty of the pieces. The basin has a more easily noticed hairline running from the one handle to about 3 inches down the inner side of the bowl. This is a tight, solid hairline and has probably been the same for decades. This old washstand set by Haeger will not brak your bank to buy, but will give a great deal more pleasure than most sets that are twice the price.

805Roo1r

Red Rooster Cast Metal Finial or Cupola Topper Here is a neat old piece from about the 1940's. This good looking little 8 inch tall red rooster was actually standing on top of a weathervane finial or old barn cupola. He is worn some and there is a hairline crack in the base across his feet, but there is no movement and the area of the crack is solid and stable, so it has likely been this way for a long time and will be this way for a lot longer. The little Rooster still has a lot of his original black undercoating and red topcoat of paint in tact. He is hollow, but heavily cast, making him rather weighty for such a small piece. With a lot of good detailing, use your imagination to think up uses for this nice little rooster.

Actual Civil War Water Barrel from Horsedrawn Ambulance Talk about a rare and unusual find. This old oak barrel, held together by iron straps is actually a Civil War Water Barrel which was part of the standard equipment carried inside a Horsedrawn Military Ambulance. I would never have guessed this handmade barrel's original purpose and I admit to being doubtful when told by the seller that it had come from an ambulance used during the Civil War, but after seeing this exact same oddly shaped wooden barrel depicted on page 81 of the book, "Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment Volume III" and described as A CIVIL WAR AMBULANCE WATER KEG by the book's author, Dr. Gordon Dammann, I was finally and totally convinced the seller had been right after all.
These strangely shaped wooden barrels were carried in pairs upon the horsedrawn ambulance. The barrels had handles which allowed them to be detached from the ambulance so they could be easily carried and used to rehydrate both ambulatory and non-ambulatory soldiers.
The dimensions varied depending on where the barrels were procured, but most were very close to this one which measures 20" long x 10" at its maximum diameter and then tapered to about 8 inches in order to keep it from rolling around inside the ambulance. All were of wooden (mainly of oak) construction, and had iron or sometimes galvanized metal barrel rings, wooden handles, metal feet, and brass spigots. Many were originally painted gray, but as more and more ambulances were called for to serve the front lines, most were left unfinished or coated with a varnish or thick wax. This one is missing most of the two bands that would have ended in angles that formed their feet, but even with these two bands missing, after filling this old barrel each evening for three nights in a row, i was pleased to find that after the third night it was stillover 85% full the next day and barely even lost a drop for two more days until I emptied it out. This old keg's ability to hold water is quite amazing since it has a cracked board on the bottom and a smaller crack on either side of the filling hole. The original leaded plug is also here, but has lost bits and pieces of the threading to time and unkind handling. This is one of those absolutely outstanding Civil War display items many of us have long hoped to find. Now is the time for someone to own this wonderful, rare piece of Civil War history.

Early 20's Tin Finial or Cupola Topper. 3D design This good looking old architectural piece is another finial or cupola topper. It is made of tin that was soldiered together and then attached to the peak of some type of finial. Likely this was once part of the peak on the tower of some old Victorian home or fastened to an old barn cupola. The tin is old and I have the feeling it is getting too brittle to last much longer outside in the elements, but could serve admirably in some indoor display. A rare old tin finial that likely dates to the roaring 20's.

Antique Weathervane Rooster, Arrow & Lightning Ball Now isn't this a good looking fellow? This old rooster once part of an old cast metal weathervane, until he and the rod he stood on went seperate ways in a bad storm. I don't know how many coats of paint he's had through the years, but he has a rather thick coat of it. The farmhouse where many of the items we will be listing was decorated with quite a number of antique lightning rod and weathervane parts. This strutting bird is made of a medium weight cast metal. I think he is solid, not hollow, but I do not believe he is made of aluminum, more likely some type of white or pot metal. The rooster measures just about 9 inches tall by 9 inches wide and stands on a different antique arrow and base than before, but he doesn't seem to mind his new roost. The stand is copper with a sheet iron mount and the arrow is also an antique. So is the white milk glass lightning ball below Mr. Rooster's feet.
How about finding this good looking old guy a nice new home?

30x36sbo

Old Barn near Hellam Pa. Oil Painting by Susan Brey A large and lovely oil painting of an old. tattered barn on a quiet back road near the little Pennsylvania town of Hellam. The artist, Susan Brey has given us a beautiful vision of a late winter's day, on a seldom-traveled road in south-central Pennsylvania.
The oil painting is large and took a lot of time to finish, but Ms. Brey's skill and patience can be seen is this impressive creation. The frame dimensions are 43 by 37 inches and the painting itself has an exposed area of slightly more than 36 by 30. The artist's signature is hidden beneath the frame, but the painting is tagged on the backing with her name and the general location where she captured this soothing bit of country scenery.

Antique Solid Oak Potty Seat & Stoneware Pot This is a really nice potty seat or nightstand. It is all made of solid oak and seems to have the original dark oak finish. At first glance it looks like an old nightstand, but lift the heavy oak lid and inside you will find the original, undamaged, stoneware pottery crock bowl. The coloring you see is not stains; it is the natural color of the stoneware. A well made, unique and very interesting piece from Victorian times.

Hand Made antique woven oak large basket This fabulous antique split oak basket was weaved together by hand and fastened with old iron nails perhaps as far back as the 1870's. The basket is not perfectly round, nor does it sit exactly strait, fact is that many places on it have damage or even loss of the oak splits, but talk about charm and class and shear primitive beauty, this great old split oak woven basket has plenty to spare. Roughly 18 wide by 14 tall, this is one you will not see come up for sale very often, if ever again.

7064ccrq

1890's Wool Patchwork Quilt. Lancaster Co. Pa. find. This old wool quilt measures 64 x 70 inches. It is a true work of art. Made by hand, each 4 inch patch was placed just so, then hand tied and beautifully highlighted with intricate embroidery.
This quilt was not randomly pieced together in a common nine-patch pattern. Within this work of art can be found a lifetime's worth of crossroads and the strength required on that journey.
The lush floral backing and thick inner batting make for a full and weighty quilt and other than a few small nips here any there, the condition is wonderful; especially when you consider it lay undisturbed inside an old trunk in the attic of a Lancaster County farmhouse for who knows how long. Fortunately someone who saw its beauty found this work of art and after showing it off to some friends, brought it to me. You may find a brighter, or bolder, or fancier quilt than this, but you will go a long way before you’ll find a finer quilt than this.

3630bluwhtsail

Antique Hand Made Painted Copper Sail Boat Weather Vane This is an amazing piece of vintage craftsmanship. This large and very heavy old weathervane sailboat measures 36 inches long by 30 inches high and has at least 80% of its original old blue and white paint, applied over the copper used to make this antique vane. Yes there is a little damage from where the vane evidently was blown off its base and struck the ground, but even a few dents can not take anything away from this marvelous old hand crafted sailor's dream boat. The base is an equally old piece of barn wood that gives this sailboat a sturdy resting place where it can spend many, many years of rest after a life of hard service. One of the finest weather vane pieces it has ever been my pleasure to have in my store.

Tin Weathervane Arrow , Bltzen Ball, Lightning Rod + Signed customized JM Picker art creation.
Here is a very unusual and quite rare antique weathervane arrow with a great stars pattern cut into the tail. The vane is made of two pieces of tin which were riveted together to form this antique three dimensional arrow. The tail has been partially eaten away by rust over the decades, but this old weathervane arrow still looks great anyway. The vane rests on a lovely antique white milk-glass lightning ball which bears the words, 'Diddie Blitzen Rods'. The ball is fitted with two copper end caps and is held in place by a small antique copper lightning rod which itself is supported by a rather charming and unique antique zinc treated tin funnel which we think makes a perfect display base. This piece is guaranteed to be made up of all antique parts with the exception of the piece of wood ( not visible) that the lightning rod sits on so as not to scratch anyone's table.
A rare weather vane, lightning rod and Blitzen glass ball made into a true one of a kind piece by virtue of the old farm found tin funnel. Plus this piece is signed by JM Picker
