28rdx4

Red Glass Ball & 3 Pendants on Fancy Lightning Rod I don't know for sure how old this set is, but I would guess from the style and the fact the rod is made of aluminum, it probably dates to the 1950's or possibly the 1960's. Not ancient, but old enough when you consider this lightning rod, red glass ball and three red glass pendants spent those 50 or 60 years out in the weather in the face of Mother Nature. The stand features a very neat spiral rod and with it's tri-pod like construction is able to hold not only the red glass lightning ball, but also three matching red pendants as well. I say matching and except for one thing there are a perfect match, but if you look closely you'll see that one of the pendants has either lost a part of its cap or perhaps never had it at all. No damaged or broken pieces and the caps are all firmly attached so I didn't bother them to try looking at the openings to see if there were and rough edges. Chances are there would be had I tried removing the tops. :) The lightning rod is painted a bronze or dark gold color and stands 30 inches high. I did replace all three of the hooks that had held the pendants because they were iron and near the point of rusting off completely. I believe this piece has spent the last several years indoors and was cleaned not that long ago. A wonderfully rare lightning rod with even more hard to find red glass ball and pendants.

Rare Old 2 pc. Red Rooster Weathervane + Stand & More This is the first time in at least the last ten years that I have seen this particular style of Rooster Weathervane.
This Bright Red Rooster seems to be sporting several coats of the same color red paint, so I would think he spent his last half century of so at the same place , under the care of the same people. Not a small or light weigght bird by any means, this Red Rooster stands over ten inches tall and 13 wide and is striding across an arrow that is 30 inches long. The arrow, Rooster, directionals and stand are all made of some type od cast metal. Not aluminum, because the piece is too heavy and not iron, because the piece is too light for that. Spelter or pot metal I imagine. very sturdy and easy to care for.
The weathervane also has a white milk glass 4 inch lightning ball and a set of compass directionals. Rather than lean such a good looking bird against a wall to take his picture, we used a 150 year old piece of barn lumber to fasten his stand onto. The total height is just under 4 feet. I still am not sure how the rooster is held together. He was obviously made in two half then joined and there is a gap of about 1/2 to 3/4 inches at his tail, but he is solidly attached to his roost, so i will just leave him alone.
A great looking Red Rooster weathervane in a rare style and size with all sorts of class and character.

This is an an excellent old barn find. A beautiful white milk glass moon and stars lightning rod ball
in very good condition. It is hard to see in the photos, but the sun has actually caused some shading to this ball that gives it an amethyst tint. There is some wear around the collars, but the copper caps are more than enough to keep that problem covered and safe. Measurement on this ball 4 1/2" round x 5 1/2 " end to end. Once you've decided on where to display this classic old piece of Americana, think about putting a tiny light up inside of it. I think you'll love how they glow.

Sun colored Amethyst Milk Glass Lightning Ball - lovely This gorgeous old lightning ball began its life as just another white round milk glass lightning ball, but through the years the sun changed the color to this wonderful swirled amethyst. If you look closely, you can see the different shades from top to bottom and especially the swirl on the ball at the lighter end. The glass is thick and heavy and the copper end caps cover the roughness at the ends. I like to use these with a small bulb as nightlights, but however you use this antique lightning ball it will not go unnoticed.

Antique Copper Lightning Rod with D&S Glass Ball 1920s Here is an original copper lightning rod with the original D&S brand Glass Lightning Ball that has been with this unit since back in the 1920's. The unique 9 side design of the milk glass ball was one of D&S' most popular and sturdy lightning balls and the D&S logo is clearly marked into the glass with raised letters, The ball measures 4 inches wide by 5 inches high and includes two copper end cups that were to protect the glass as it moved around out in the elements. The copper lightning rod stands 53 inches high and has a wonderful verdigris age patina. At the base is the original three legged iron roof mount which measures 35 inches. A simple, yet appealing remnant of a long ago time that has passed the test of time and graduated with honors.

Pair Bee-Hive Style Ceramic Lightning Balls. Off white Here is a pair of almost identical lightning balls in the bee hive style. The one ball is ever so slightly whiter than the other, but that is the only difference. They both stand 4 inches tall and are made of a heavy ceramic insulating material to withstand lightning strikes. The lightning balls have large openings so were made for larger, perhaps 3/4 inch lightning rods. Only very slight damage as shown. Nice pair of Bee Hive lightning balls

White Pleated Milk Glass lightning ball & end caps A really nice old lightning ball in what I've always been told is a style that's called Pleated. The ball is very heavy, thick glass and measures roughly 4 inches across. The copper caps cover the only areas where the glass is a little rough and overall this is a very nice old lightning ball, especially considering it is pleated.

The Sun King. Lightning Rod & Ball. Signed Folk Art Every couple of months JM will come walking through the door, bright and early, carrying one of his marvelously original Folk Art pieces. This time I think JM has really outdone himself. 'Here comes the Sun King'. He was humming that old Beatles song as he carried his latest creation in and sat it on top of the counter. 'Like him', he asked, smiling from ear to ear.
'Yes. Very much', I answered, then added, 'If I had to guess, I'd say you call this piece 'The Sun King', right?'
Well to make a long story a little less long, I was right. JM's latest folk art creation is made from vintage weathervane and lightning rod parts, with an old porch column top as its base. The piece is simple, yet very eye-catching and wonderful. The Sun King piece measures 36 inches tall with an 8 x 8 inch antique wooden base, a three sided lightning rod finial at the top and a white milk glass lightning ball in a style called, Moon and Stars adding their ageless beauty to the star of the show, a beautiful old brass plated, pot metal, two sided, smiling faced star JM has named, 'The Sun King'. This is a one of a kind; JM Picker original piece of folk art and it is signed on the backside of the wooden base by non other than JM Picker himself. I don't know how he does it, but the surprises just keep coming.
