The Shell Heap. Vintage Winslow Homer Print NYGS Here is another wonderful vintage limited edition print by the New York Graphic Society. This lovely piece is titled, The Shell Heap, by Winslow Homer. Still in the original frame, this fine old print of the original Homer watercolor is a perfect match to another of our offered vintage prints with a nautical theme. The print has numerous markings in pencil in the margins. The work is a tropical scene of a rowboat and a fisherman locked in a struggle with what seems a rather large fish. Palm trees, sand, surf and water all add up to a lovely and very peaceful antique art print.

NudeswithFlowers

Nudes and Flowers - limited signed by Claude Gaveau Bought in 2004 as the second piece to a pair of Gaveau's gorgeous lithographs, this limited printing also bears the number 48 of 180, at the time of purchase, it seemed like a courteous gesture, but with Gaveau's huge rise in popularity, this second of the two similar prints forces one to ask why wouldn't you sell them both together? Well the answer is I prefer to let my customers decide if they want to by one or both, so in effect, as long as neither one is sold, they are available to be purchased together.
This hand signed piece is a vivid depiction of the passion between two lovers. Did the beautiful bouquet of flowers lead directly to this passionate scene of a man and woman locked together by a mix of desire, need and love? I would have to lean toward that thinking, but who really knows for sure. Professionally framed and glazed, this piece measures 24 by 30 inches. Another rare signed lithograph by Claude Gaveau

Condition: very good - frame &glass

75-75JB

Astronaut - by Max Papart - Rare limited edition Astronaut, created by Max Papart, is one of the most sought after and most difficult to find among all the many Papart complex hand made carborundum etchings.
This large piece was the last one made in the limited production edition of only 75 pieces. All 75 were hand signed and numbered by Papart himself, and offer all of us a chance to see the man’s true genius at its very best. It is difficult enough for most of us to even begin to comprehend the many skills needed to create a work of art such as this one. For me it is a humbling experience to see this work close up and realize the unequaled mastery Papart possessed at the performance of all the many skills He employed in order to create this fantastic piece of art.
This work of art is professionally framed with an overall size of 26 by 34 and has been kept out of the sun and safe in this frame since the beginning. If you are a fan of Papart, then you know how seldom this piece is seen in any type of market place. I am placing a price that I feel is close to the true worth of this hand made combination of carborundum, dry point etching, textured, collage style effects and all done on hand made 100% Rag Paper made expressly for this Papart edition by Duchene of France. Please feel free to make an offer if you are not as inclined as I am in the belief that this piece is worth my opening price. It never hurts to ask. Even if you do not plan to buy this fine piece of art, you are always free to simply view and enjoy all the fine things inside our store.

1899JPS

The Ring I must admit that this lithograph has me stumped. I have found numerous of Jean Paul Selinger's other works, but not like this. The top right corner is marked Copyright 1899 by Jean Paul Selinger. The bottom left corner has a fancy raised seal or watermark that contains a large letter B along with some smaller letters or words I have not been able to identify. The right bottom corner also has a raised seal that appears to repeat at least part of the copyright information from above. I am sure there are ways to reveal these markings, but I will leave that job to someone much more qualified than I am. The picture is mounted in what has been described to me as a floating mount, which was common in the late 1800's and involves the etching, which measures 10 by 13 inches, being glued to a contrasting border, which is about a half inch larger than the etching. Then this piece is set over a flat gray/brown background and framed with a simple wooden frame of a slightly darker color. The backing paper, black in color, is old and very fragile and where it is torn loose one can see that thin sheets of rough sawn wood hold everything together. There is a partial nametag on the back which I am certain says, - Tilden Thurber Co. Art Gallery Providence, R.I. - This lovely old piece has some marks and stains and spots, but none have enough power to take anything away from this wonderful image of a young woman clearly in love. I believe the reason I have not found another like this anywhere may have to do with the simplest of reasons. No one who has a copy has any desire to part with it. JM
