......To me, Marching Orders is one of those rare paintings that refuses to be denied. Although it is somewhat small, slightly over eight inches wide and ten inches high, the painting literally shouts in a thunderous voice at anyone who chances by saying, "Look at me! Look at the face of mankind!"
The sight of armies marching off to war has become so commonplace that even children seem not to notice.

I’m sure the beings that watch us from distant worlds must puzzle about why we survived this long.
