Circa: 1860's Condition: used antique. as found Color: Black Leather and Aged Brass Country of Origin: United States Manufacturer: made for the Union Army
A rare find, to say the least. This 2 inch wide, heavyweight, black leather belt has me convinced it is indeed the original belt that was originally attached to this lead filled back, embossed brass and US marked, Civil War belt plate. The buckle has a lot of heavy age patina and is in excellent condition. The leather belt is also in very good shape, especially considering it's age and the fact that it is leather. The belt is just a little bit stiff and does have a few surface cracks, but about all this great old leather waist belt needs from time to time is a little touch of saddle soap or oil to keep it in flexable, usable condition. If someone wants to wear this old Civil War antique belt and its buckle, they will need to have a waist measurement of not more than size 32. Thst is because the belt measures just a fraction over 32 inches in total length. There are traces of markings on the belt's underside, but I can't make out what those markings are trying to tell me. Even so, this is a truly rare piece of Civil War and Union Army History and will make a fine addition to someone's collection. Buy this set and get free shipping to anywhere in the continental US
