The great looking vintage Ironstone Tea or Coffee Pot features wonderful design accents which really add to the beauty of the pure white stoneware. The tea pot stands 9 1/2 inches high and 9 1/2 from handle's end to the tip of the spout. The maker's mark on the bottom is to worn to read, but the shape and style of the mark is that of Ceres Shape, Elsmore & Forster Tunstall and based on the characteristics of the pot itself, I believe this Coffee or Tea pot; as you prefer, dates all the way back to the Civil War era , if not before. The design is lovely. From its pear shaped body with melon ribs, and scalloped top edge, to the clearly detailed molded wheat pattern around neck, on the sides of the slightly crooked, handmade handle & on the spout, The Wheat pattern is even found in twisting form on the lid finial. An incredibly old piece from a very significant maker.
