c.1890 RELIEF CHERUB & BIRD SCENT PERFUME BOTTLE A delightful pewter or white metal rounded scent bottle, with a suspensory chain, and cork and screw sprinkler top. The piece is decorated to the front and back with relief panels; on the one side a preening bird sits on a leafy branch below a star - possibly meant an an analogy of evening or night - on the other side, the bird is soaring into the sky - here again possibly an analogy of day. The base of the bottle is embellished with winged cherub's heads; the tapered sides are enhanced with undulating beaded borders and large flower heads.
