J90019

Vintage Chiltern Teddy Bear A wonderful Chiltern Hug-A-Me teddy bear, circa early 1950's. He is still in remarkably good shape for his age. These are the only flaws: - His head is a bit wobbly. - On one of the paws the stitching of one claw is loose and one of the four original stitched claws are missing. - On the other paw, one of the original four stitched "claws" are missing. His brown and black glass eyes are still firm in his head. He does not have any bald spots. He is made from genuine mohair in the Old Gold colour. His mouth stitching is fully intact, he has the typical Chiltern "shield" stitched nose and inverted V shaped stitched mouth - all fully intact. Lightly shaved around the muzzle area. Foot and paw pads are velvety Rexine and still in very good condition. Back of head has a V shaped seam, he has wood wool filling in the head and wood discs for joints - he is fully jointed. His body is Kapok filled. The Chiltern Toy Works made it's first teddy bear in 1915. The trademark Chiltern Toys originates from the company's location at Chesham amidst the Chiltern hills in England. During the second world war the factory was turned over to war work and after the war a new factory was built in Pontypool, Monmouth, Wales. Identification - Cloth labels were introduced in the 1940's and these were placed on the foot pad. They were fabric labels with Chiltern Hygienic Toys Made in England in red print. The label on my bear has long since fallen off but you can still see the imprint that was left by the original label. The Chiltern company was taken over by Chad Valley in 1967. Measurements: 26" inches in length, 21" inches around the head and the ears are rounded. Measures 22-1/2 around the waist/chest. Arms are 11-1/2 inches in length and legs are 10-1/2 inches long to the base of the foot.
Circa: 1945-1955

Art Deco Reverse Painted Colored Foils Signed A beautiful example of early century reverse painting under glass by Smith Frederick, a well known artist of this era. In this piece, he has incorporated the use of coloured foils in the embellishment of the flowers in the vase, with the exception of two of the top centre flowers, where the foils are used only for the centre of those two flowers and the petals reveal the background of the picture. Also the black leaves spiking out from the floral arrangement, all of the outlines of each individual flowers, the vase and decorative embellishment on the vase are reverse painted under glass, without the foils. The colours used in the foils are really lovely and still exceptionally vibrant. He has used colours of silver, copper, bronze and pewter with teal blue for the bluebell flowers. This work is all in perfect vintage condition, with no issues to note whatsoever. This work has stood the test of time magnificently. Unfortunately, my pictures don't do this work adequate justice at all as it was difficult to capture the beauty of the colours and flawless artistry in this piece without getting significant glare from the glass. The background colour is a pink peach. The frame is wood painted black with an inner banding of gold and is in very good vintage condition with no significant signs of wear. The measurements are 7-3/4 inches wide from east to west and 11-3/4 inches tall from north to south, including the frame which is 1/2 inch wide all around. Signed by the artist, Smith Frederick.

Oil Painting on Glass, Southern Belle in Garden A very charming hand painted picture on glass with pale pink satin under the glass. This beautiful early 1900's picture depicts a southern belle sitting in a garden, she holds a basket of pale pink and blue flowers over one arm and she is gazing up at two birds fluttering around a bird house. Many beautiful flowers in the garden in delicate shades of lilac, lavender, pink and mint green. She wears a lovely pink and white dress with blue flowers at the sleeves and a large black bow at the back to match the ribbons in her bonnet. Her hair is dressed in ringlets and this delightful work may even date back as far as the Victorian era, although I believe it is around 1900 - 1920. The painting is in perfect condition with absolutely no flaws, no scuffing, no scratches and no loss of paint anywhere at all - and the colours are strong and vibrant. The glass is quite dirty and I have not dared to clean it for fear of inflicting any damage but have left in it's original as found condition. The frame is wood, painted black with an inner banding of gold. The frame itself shows very minor wear except for the paper backing covering the back which is very brittle and fragile and has been poorly taped at one corner, as I have shown in the picture. There is a small brass fixture on the back for hanging. I see no signature on this piece and have not attempted to take it apart to look for one. The measurements are 6-1/2" inches by 6-1/2" inches square, including the frame - the inside painting is 5-1/4" inches square. The frame has a few minor abrasions which are not at all noticeable, overall, this delightful and so charming oil painting has withstood the test of time extraordinarily well. This painting was done in oils, the gown in particular shows some beautiful brush work.

Romantic Framed Prints, Benton Glass Co. Set of Two Two very charming and colourfull romantic prints, framed under glass. On the upper left and right corner of the pictures, partially covered by the frame, it is printed: Benton Glass Co. R.185-22 and Litho in USA. The other picture states the same with tpicture states the same with the numbers 185-21. Each picture shows a beautiful young lady taking a stroll in a country park like setting. One young lady is auburn haired and wears a pretty blue dress trimmed in pink and holds a parasol, while she strolls hand in hand with her young man wearing top hat and tails. The other picture shows a lovely dark haired young lady in a yellow dress trimmed in blue ribbons as she offers her hand for a kiss to a prospective suitor perhaps? Lovely country setting with a church steeple in the background. The prints each measure 4-3/4" inches wide by 5-3/4" inches in height (framed measurement.) The frames are wood and painted in an antiqued off-white colour. The prints and frames are in excellent condition but there is some discoloration to the backing boards, as shown in picture.

Estate1940's LeCoultre14K Solid YG Watch A rare 1940's ladies hidden flip top Jaeger Le Coultre wrist watch in 14K yellow gold, both watch and bracelet are 14K solid gold not gold plated or gold filled. It is a manual wristwatch and in perfect working condition. The 28mm diameter round watch has a polished finish and is overlaid with an offset polished yellow gold cover. The watch has a strap of two 5.00mm wide snake chains that has a hinged closure. The round silver colour dial has a brushed texture with gold colour dot markers and gold colour Arabic numerals at 3,6,9 and 12, and is signed Le Coultre. The movement is signed Le Coultre Co Unadjusted Swiss 9 OLN Seventeen 17 jewels 513583. The inside of the case is stamped Cased and timed in U.S.A. by Le Coultre 14Kt gold 420628. The watch weighs 44.18 grams. This watch was appraised last year and valued at $7,000 - the appraisal documentation will accompany the watch. The Jaeger le Coultre watch company is one of the oldest Swiss watchmakers. Antoine le Coultre opened a small factory in Le Sentier in 1833 where current factory remains. Le Coultre quickly built a reputation for quality and precision, so much so that he became the leading supplier of movements to the watch making industry in Switzerland. In 1925 Antoine's grandson, David, merged the company with that of Edmond Jaeger, which is when the current day company, Jaeger le Coultre came into existence. It is one of the few Swiss companies still producing its own movements, cases, dials and bracelets. This gives the company total control over the quality and precision of its watches and is a contributory factor for it being one of the small number of elite watchmakers with a world wide reputation for quality and precision. Jaeger le Coultre has been one of the most innovative watchmakers in the world, having produced a number of revolutionary inventions including the Atmos Perpetual Motion Clock (which operates on air pressure) and the creation of the world's smallest mechanical movement which weighed less than one gram.

1677

Handbag Victorian Black Lace & Satin A lovely and delicate Victorian purse and a great example of Victoriana fashion accessories. This purse has a black lace overlay, which I believe is a heavy cotton. There is black satin underneath the lace overlay. The lace work is in need of some minor repair in several places. The frame is brass and is darkened on the outside with patina consistent with age. The inside of the frame is much brighter. The frame has very pretty and ornate stamping. The lining is original to the piece and is red silk. The lining has no rips, tears or stains. This purse has been hand stitched to the frame. The single, crossover handle is black silk and is 1/4 inch wide and has a drop of 4-1/2 inches to the frame. The close is a kiss style close. The purse measures 5-1/2 inches wide along the top of the frame, from east to west and the height is 4-3/4 inches, excluding the carry handle. The purse is still well attached to the frame. A lovely antique piece of museum quality.

821

Victorian Rosewood Letterbox MOP Inlay Originally from England and dating to around the early 1900's, this box is a must for the discerning collector. Beautiful rosewood ecaille en nacre(mother of pearl inlay) is shell inlaid on wood. I believe it is actually a letter or document box but can be used as a trinket, jewellery box or for keepsakes and momentos. Magnificent mother of pearl inlay floral spray on the lid of the box, highly detailed even to the tiny minuscule thorns on the stems of the roses. A large butterfly hovers overhead accompanied by two smaller butterflies. It has a push button opening, possibly brass but greatly darkened with patina, as is all of the fittings. There is a small "arm" inside to the right for holding the box open. There is also mother of pearl inlay on the back and left and right sides of the box in the form of flowing vines and leaves. I have closely examined this box with a jeweler's loupe and find all of the inlay to be present. There is however a very small abrasion to the wood on the top of the box that looks at first to be part of the overall decoration (about 5m x 3m) and could easily be touched up. There are two hairline cracks due to age, toward the back at the top, barely visible and appear at first glance to be part of the grain of the wood. All in all, this has done remarkably well for it's considerable years and is in very fine condition with minimal signs of age wear. The measurements are 9-1/4 inches wide from left to right and 5-1/8 from north to south. The standing height is 2-1/2 inches. It is unlined and could be beautifully embellished inside as you wish and to suit your own personal taste. Gorgeous coloration of the MOP inlay and wonderful artistry and detail, particularly on the wings of the butterfly that show "eyes," the veins of the leaves, shading of the roses in full bloom, tiny thorns on the stems. It truly is a joy to behold.
