Art Deco Reverse Painted Colored Foils Signed A beautiful example of early century reverse painting under glass by Smith Frederick, a well known artist of this era. In this piece, he has incorporated the use of coloured foils in the embellishment of the flowers in the vase, with the exception of two of the top centre flowers, where the foils are used only for the centre of those two flowers and the petals reveal the background of the picture. Also the black leaves spiking out from the floral arrangement, all of the outlines of each individual flowers, the vase and decorative embellishment on the vase are reverse painted under glass, without the foils. The colours used in the foils are really lovely and still exceptionally vibrant. He has used colours of silver, copper, bronze and pewter with teal blue for the bluebell flowers. This work is all in perfect vintage condition, with no issues to note whatsoever. This work has stood the test of time magnificently. Unfortunately, my pictures don't do this work adequate justice at all as it was difficult to capture the beauty of the colours and flawless artistry in this piece without getting significant glare from the glass. The background colour is a pink peach. The frame is wood painted black with an inner banding of gold and is in very good vintage condition with no significant signs of wear. The measurements are 7-3/4 inches wide from east to west and 11-3/4 inches tall from north to south, including the frame which is 1/2 inch wide all around. Signed by the artist, Smith Frederick.
Circa: 1910-1930

Original Miniature Watercolor by Emma Daniels A beautifully executed original miniature watercolour by the British artist Emma Daniels. Depicts the English countryside, hills, trees and the roof of a farmhouse way in the distance, peeking out behind a hillside. Magnificent vibrant colors, amazingly detailed in such a small painting. The painting measures just over 1-3/4 wide from east to west and is 2-1/4 inches in height. It is matted on an off-white matting. It is unframed and has four clips holding the glass around the picture, as shown in the photograph. Framed measurements are 4-1/4 wide by 5 inches tall. It is ready to hang as such or could be re-matted and reframed using a much larger matt and more traditional frame for a more intense and dramatic effect, as so many miniatures are now. Condition is excellent, estimated age around the 1980's.

Oriental Art Silk Thread Work Embroidery Framed Chinese Silk Embroidery picture matted and framed using non-glare glass - ready to hang with picture wire on the back. Two birds sitting on a tree amid blossoms and flowers - a great Feng Shui romance picture !! Lovely vibrant colours, absolutely gorgeous All hand embroidered on silk. Measures 25 x 19 framed. Excellent condition, some very minor scuffing to the gold wood frame. Below is a brief history of this centuries old art. Silk embroidery is a type of Oriental wall art that results from the traditional Chinese skill of pulling fine strands of colored silk through a canvas to create a beautiful work of art. The most common way to enjoy silk embroidery is as a framed, wall-hanging object. Hence, it is ideal as a gift, collectible, home decoration, souvenir, or office piece. The art of skill embroidery originated in China and has been practiced t for over 3,800 years. It reached a high level early in the Qing and Han dynasties, with silk and silk embroidery being the main products transported along the ancient Chinese Silk Road. China was one of the first countries to transform embroidery into an advanced art form. The use of special embroidery techniques and styles sets apart Chinese embroidery from embroidery created in other parts of the world. In the past, embroidery skills were considered to be an essential skill every woman was to possess. A woman who could create a high-quality embroidery piece was admired and well-respected. Women from rich families took on embroidery as a hobby while those from poor families did it for a living. Today, high-quality embroidery works are treated on the same level as the best Chinese paintings and Tang/Song Dynasty poems.

Original Signed Watercolor by D. Madge Framed A beautifully executed original signed watercolour by D. Madge (possibly Madge Graves who was famous for paintings of New England landscapes and Wildflowers who lived from early 1900's until 1984.) Depicts a beautiful array of countryside wildflowers, including lily of the Valley, Foxgloves, cornflowers, daisies, ferns, ivy and lovely pink open roses. Colors are magnificent, pastels of soft pinks and greens, with dramatic indigo blues for the cornflowers and narcissus, blended nicely with the dramatic whites of the lilly of the valley and daisies. A beautifully executed rendition of wildflowers. The painting measures just over 10 wide from east to west and is 13 inches in height. It is matted on an soft green matting which is a color that blends nicely with the ferns in the picture. It is framed in a wood frame that has been painted a soft pink. The painting is in very excellent condition, the frame however does show some wear consistent with age and is, I believe, the original frame. This painting was executed in the late 1940's.

Signed Litho Bill Saunders "Hillside View" Artist signed and numbered, 70 of a limited edition of 500. Titled Hillside View - Realism. A horse drawn buggy winds it's way along a country lane, lots of greenery -a very soothing and serene country scene, actual image size is 9 x 12-1/2. Framed size is 18x21. Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the artist. The matting is a soft green color and the frame is a dark forest green color. Please excuse camera glare and reflection from the window - there is absolutely no damage to the picture! About the Artist: Born March 7, 1948 in the Province of Quebec, Canada, bordering on the state of Vermont, Bill Saunders began sketching at the age of 4 and painting at age 12. Painting initially with oils, Bill soon switched to acrylics which better suited his technique. His work took on a realistic style as he strove to include even the smallest details. For years he painted only for pure personal enjoyment but slowly his work began to gain critical recognition. In 1977, Bill realized what most of us search for much longer - that life should be about doing what you love and in so doing, making all those whose lives touch yours a little fuller. He made the diffcult decision to risk financial security by leaving his technical position with an international refinery to devote his energies to developing his passion. The joy that Bill has brought to many through his work is proof positive that he made the right decision. Bill's passion for painting is second only to his love for his family. His wife Bonnie and daughter Kimberley along with the Saunders' animal entourage - Muddy the rottweiler and cats Picasso, Chloe and Johnny - are his greatest inspiration and most devoted supporters. Time and again Bill has captured the timeless serenity of an aged farmhouse, a cozy front porch, or a group of children playing. These are the simple things in life which most of us will admit are the things we treasure most. His paintings are a collage of places and people Bill has seen while traveling the North American countryside on his prized 1968 Triumph motorcycle. They are things which have touched his heart and triggered a sense of belonging. They are ideas he cherishes and wants to preserve through his paintings. As the world rushes forward, Bill Saunders hopes these scenes will never disappear.

1424

Art Deco Wooden Nursery Pictures s an unusual find - two small nursery pictures on what appears to be pine wood square tiles, painted black with a nursery transfer applied. These are very old indeed, from about the early 1900's at least, probably 1910-20's. Minor surface wear but mostly around the outer edges and easily touched up. They are pictures from famous nursery rhymes, Jack and Jill Went Up The Hill and Little Jack Horner Sat In The Corner. They measure just under 4" inches square and the thickness is 1/4" inch. They both have little hanging tabs glued on the back. Absolutely charming
