Art Deco Reverse Painted Colored Foils Signed A beautiful example of early century reverse painting under glass by Smith Frederick, a well known artist of this era. In this piece, he has incorporated the use of coloured foils in the embellishment of the flowers in the vase, with the exception of two of the top centre flowers, where the foils are used only for the centre of those two flowers and the petals reveal the background of the picture. Also the black leaves spiking out from the floral arrangement, all of the outlines of each individual flowers, the vase and decorative embellishment on the vase are reverse painted under glass, without the foils. The colours used in the foils are really lovely and still exceptionally vibrant. He has used colours of silver, copper, bronze and pewter with teal blue for the bluebell flowers. This work is all in perfect vintage condition, with no issues to note whatsoever. This work has stood the test of time magnificently. Unfortunately, my pictures don't do this work adequate justice at all as it was difficult to capture the beauty of the colours and flawless artistry in this piece without getting significant glare from the glass. The background colour is a pink peach. The frame is wood painted black with an inner banding of gold and is in very good vintage condition with no significant signs of wear. The measurements are 7-3/4 inches wide from east to west and 11-3/4 inches tall from north to south, including the frame which is 1/2 inch wide all around. Signed by the artist, Smith Frederick.

Set of 2 Romantic Silhouette Prints Reverse Painted A set of two very charming and romantic framed pictures. Scarlett and Rhett? In the background there is a print picture in beautiful pastel shades of a very lovely garden scene, with trees and flowers. The couple is in silhouette, reverse painted under glass. In the first picture the gentleman appears to catch the lady by surprise as she is walking her dog in the garden. She turns to greet him as he takes off his hat to her. In the second picture, she takes his arm and they walk side by side together, now with the gentleman holding the leash and walking with the dog. The pictures are framed in an engraved and painted ivory colour wood frame. The frames are in very good condition and it is possible that these pictures have been re-framed at some point in their history. They each measure 4-3/4 inches wide, east to west, and 5-3/4 in length, north to south - framed measurement. The inside measurement, unframed, is 3-3/4 x 4-3/4. Both pictures are in very excellent condition with no paint loss and the background colouring of the print is bright and vivid. Some distortion from the camera flash on to the glass is not an indication of any flaw in the pictures. The backing is cardboard and there is a cut out for hanging.

Oil Painting on Glass, Southern Belle in Garden A very charming hand painted picture on glass with pale pink satin under the glass. This beautiful early 1900's picture depicts a southern belle sitting in a garden, she holds a basket of pale pink and blue flowers over one arm and she is gazing up at two birds fluttering around a bird house. Many beautiful flowers in the garden in delicate shades of lilac, lavender, pink and mint green. She wears a lovely pink and white dress with blue flowers at the sleeves and a large black bow at the back to match the ribbons in her bonnet. Her hair is dressed in ringlets and this delightful work may even date back as far as the Victorian era, although I believe it is around 1900 - 1920. The painting is in perfect condition with absolutely no flaws, no scuffing, no scratches and no loss of paint anywhere at all - and the colours are strong and vibrant. The glass is quite dirty and I have not dared to clean it for fear of inflicting any damage but have left in it's original as found condition. The frame is wood, painted black with an inner banding of gold. The frame itself shows very minor wear except for the paper backing covering the back which is very brittle and fragile and has been poorly taped at one corner, as I have shown in the picture. There is a small brass fixture on the back for hanging. I see no signature on this piece and have not attempted to take it apart to look for one. The measurements are 6-1/2" inches by 6-1/2" inches square, including the frame - the inside painting is 5-1/4" inches square. The frame has a few minor abrasions which are not at all noticeable, overall, this delightful and so charming oil painting has withstood the test of time extraordinarily well. This painting was done in oils, the gown in particular shows some beautiful brush work.

Oriental Art Silk Thread Work Embroidery Framed Chinese Silk Embroidery picture matted and framed using non-glare glass - ready to hang with picture wire on the back. Two birds sitting on a tree amid blossoms and flowers - a great Feng Shui romance picture !! Lovely vibrant colours, absolutely gorgeous All hand embroidered on silk. Measures 25 x 19 framed. Excellent condition, some very minor scuffing to the gold wood frame. Below is a brief history of this centuries old art. Silk embroidery is a type of Oriental wall art that results from the traditional Chinese skill of pulling fine strands of colored silk through a canvas to create a beautiful work of art. The most common way to enjoy silk embroidery is as a framed, wall-hanging object. Hence, it is ideal as a gift, collectible, home decoration, souvenir, or office piece. The art of skill embroidery originated in China and has been practiced t for over 3,800 years. It reached a high level early in the Qing and Han dynasties, with silk and silk embroidery being the main products transported along the ancient Chinese Silk Road. China was one of the first countries to transform embroidery into an advanced art form. The use of special embroidery techniques and styles sets apart Chinese embroidery from embroidery created in other parts of the world. In the past, embroidery skills were considered to be an essential skill every woman was to possess. A woman who could create a high-quality embroidery piece was admired and well-respected. Women from rich families took on embroidery as a hobby while those from poor families did it for a living. Today, high-quality embroidery works are treated on the same level as the best Chinese paintings and Tang/Song Dynasty poems.
