Black Memorabilia Americana DARKY MAN older wood frame Picture. Here is a really unique reproduction! Frame measures 9-1/2 x 12.
It shows a black man with tears on his face, obviously praying for help! 3 large alligators are after him and one of them has him by the pants! In the upper right corner it says in the racist dialect dialog popularized in the 20s & 30s:
A DARKY'S PRAYER, FLORIDA
Dese gaters looked so feary
And yet dey 'peered so tame
But now that I done met 'em
I'll neber be de same.
This and other different pictures were purchased from an old restaurant in Missouri that closed down. The 12 foot high walls were covered with all types of Black Americana / Memorabilia.
Very good condition! Hard to get a good picture with the glare off the glass. I even have an old postcard with a similar picture and prayer. This was probably reproduced from one of those. If you know for sure, please let me know all you Postcard Collectors out there...

In honor of Black History Month, these items are made available to the community at large to remind us from where we've come as a country, & to remind us to hopefully Never go back there again...Sadly, here in Chicago & NW Indiana, there are a number of those that never left there... & proudly cling to their prejudices & superior attitudes. The klan had & still has many supporters in central Indiana where I grew up.
