The calendars in the center are surrounded by 12 representative scenes from the books/works of individuals who are/were instrumental in literature. These include (clockwise): Geoffrey Chaucer & Canterbury Tales, William Shakespeare & Hamlet, Sir Walter Scott & Rob Roy, Jane Austen & Pride and Prejudice, Mary Shelley & Frankenstein, Charles Dickens & Oliver Twist, Thomas Hardy & Far From the Madding Crowd, Oscar Wilde & The Picture of Dorian Grey, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle & The hound of the Baskervilles, Arnold Bennett & Anna of The Five Towns, Dame Agatha Christie & Murder at the Vicarage, J.R.R. Tolkien & The Hobbit. The piece is trimmed in orange 10 inches (25 cms) wide. On the back of the piece, there is a circle naming each individual, their date of birth and date of death. The back has all the designs repeated along with the makers marks. I guess Wedgwood decided to start their millennium editions in 1999 (for some said 1999 was THE year, others 2000) & just to be on the safe side they carried it on until 2001! The question is: Which millennium commemorative pieces will gain the most value in the next 10 years?! Is this a good bet? Lots more Queen's Ware plates & other Wedgwood ornaments & items on this site, or we'll find those pieces for you. Blessed Holidays.
