This blue and white transferware plate was made by Wedgwood, c. 1880. It depicts a scene from Sir Walter Scott’s "Ivanhoe". Tiles in this series were also made by Wedgwood and designed by Thomas Allen. This plate depicts Wamba the jester and Gurth the swineherd. Among the border characters are Rebecca, Lady Rowena, and Isaac of York interspersed by fish, fowl, game and foliage. In a small section at the bottom above the word "Wamba" there are about 5 light brown colored curlicues. No chips or cracks. (292E)
