Bloomfield ONEIDAS Native American History 09 This is an exceptionally hard to find, scarce Native American history especially in this nice VERY GOOD MINUS condition - MUST SEE PICS! There are a few blemishes to maroon ribbed embossed illustrated cloth that should show in pics, slight slant to binding, touch of foxing to page fore & bottom-edges otherwise a very presentable copy with a clean interior and bright white pages. Pendleton ODD center design blanket SHAWL VG This old unusual Pendleton blanket features a centered design that has an amazing flair to it similar to some early colorful Racine shawls - MUST SEE PICS! Exciting design - blanket has about ten or so tiny little holes, but not very noticeable - (see backlit photo!) - biggest shown with penny. There's a little light wear to the fringe, but isn't matted or knotted - hard to spot & certainly doesn't distract, just affects a few strands. Measures 60 inches wide and 66 long - one of the most enticing patterns we've seen in a couple of years - SO DON'T MISS OUT! This particular blanket reminds me of the Racine on pg.41 of Barry Friedman's ultimate blanket book CHASING RAINBOWS - the Racine frame pattern gave way to various incarnation by Pendleton (see also p.125 LL corner). There aren't all that many center point designs in the world of the wool Indian trade blanket, but this one is sure sharp, full of serrated diamonds and arrowhead like motifs in all four corners, a tremendous pattern - JUST SUPERB! SACHEM Native American CI pr BOOKENDS Bronze finished cast iron Native American bookends stand 5.5 inches tall and nearly 4.5 inches wide. Sold as a pair these two are in VERY GOOD condition and date from the late 1920s to 1930s. (Ref. BOOKEND REVUE by Seecof & Kuritzky 1996 Schiffer Publishing p.76/7) Called SACHEM (Massachusetts Indian term denoting supreme ruler or chief - Stoutenburgh 1960) these beautiful iron bookends show a Native American Chief in full head dress, necklaces and part of what looks like a quilled vest. Mata Ortiz SOFIA DE TENA signed low VASE EXE! This Mata Ortiz vase is artist signed by Sofia de Tena vase and is in EXCELLENT condition - NO chips, cracks or scratches - MUST SEE PICS! Beautiful interlocking architectonic arms are cetner divided by similar motif. Very even and well executed design work. The body has an all-over tan burnished sigilatta/slip that has been over painted in rich colors of charcoal and a ruddy iron oxide red - L@@K at pics. Stands a squat 4.25 inches tall and flares out to about 7.75 inches - incised signed on bottom, see corresponding pic. Came from an estate that many VINTAGE Native American items. Pendleton CAYUSE INDIAN wool blanket VG This VINTAGE Pendleton Woolen Mills CAYUSE INDIAN banded robe is in about VERY GOOD used condition w/ 5-6 smaller than a pencil sized holes and moderate even use overall - MUST SEE PICS! Can be seen in Robert Kapoun's book LANGUAGE OF THE ROBE pg.150 in a different color as coming with a 1921 label, which would date it between 1921-1930*. Measures 60 x 64 - has no felt edging or fringe left - could be shrunk, BUT if so, not very much and still lays flat. Have not tried to clean - some very faint soil, would likely come out and near impossible to see (took us about a week). This blanket still presents itself nicely and has many cold nights use left in it. A great banded pattern that looks like someone speaking through an oscilloscope, perhaps saying, "Buy me...buy me". Put out by the Government Printing Office this is is the ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1929 containing articles on light, photosynthesis, X-raying the Earth, aborigines of the island of Hispaniola (Haiti), history of the sewing machine - very interesting omnibus of a variety of topics.
