FOR SALE is a rare Findlay Onyx Muffineer or Sugar Shaker that was made in 1889. These pieces were made for about six months and the firm of Dalzell, Gilmore and Leighton Company stopped manufacturing. This piece is featured in John Shuman's "American Art Glass" book, page 73. This is the exact piece. It is 5 1/2". The one listed in Shuman's book has rasberry flowers and yellow stems, mine does not. Shuman's book is almost 15 years old and he lists his muffineer for almost 2,100. My price is much, much less.
My muffineer is in extremely perfect condition. There are no chips, cracks, dings, nothing, except in the inside of the top, it is rough, which is characteristic of the manufacturing and the way the glass turned out. This is not a damage, but all pieces are like this. The glass where you screw on the brass top, the outside, is perfect. The brass top has a beautiful patina to it and has no damage. Usually, they are bent, or the sides are slit. It also screws on easily, firm and does not wobble when it is on.
This is an extremely rare find and a piece worth having if you are a serious glass collector.
IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS ON THIS PIECE, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK. |
