Spangle Glass, Art Glass Pitcher and Tumbler
Very nice spangle glass pitcher and matching tumbler. Spangle glass is the same as spatter glass except "the first gather of transparent colored or opaque white was rolled on the table to pick up scattered flecks of mica or biotite. This gather was then cased with a clear or amber crystal, locking the effect." From page 43 of "The Collector's Encyclopedia of American Art Glass", 1996.<p> The pitcher measures 8 3/4" high and is approximately 7 1/2" in diameter at its widest point. The handle is a clear, applied handle. The pitcher has a ground pontil. The outside is cased in a clear glass. It has 9 ribs and the top has 6 ruffles. The colors are various shades of ruby, with white, mica and clear. The tumbler is 3 3/4" tall and 2 3/4" in diameter at the top. The glow in the photo is from a light shining on the side of the pieces. These 2 pieces are in excellent condition.
