Neat matching pair of vintage bakelite buttons found out of a home. Overall round in shape, but carved into a multi-height form that reminds us of an eye, having a smooth middle highest section in a pointed oval shape that is surrounded by slanted outer sections with multi-carved line curved designs. One old button is much larger in size than the other. We have seen this referred to as a mother daughter pair or mother and daughter set. The larger button measures about 1 5/8 inches in diameter and 3/8 inch in depth. The smaller vintage button measures about 1 1/16 inches in diameter and 5/16 inch in depth. Overall dark chocolate brown color. Both buttons have a metal loop shank on the backside for sewing attachment..

We've provided 8 images to show from different angles, top and bottom sides, with a quarter for size comparison, together and individually. The camera lighting creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth button surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely. These buttons were tested with Simichrome Polish and shown to be bakelite.

Very nice overall vintage used condition but not mint, as expected. You can see in the images the metal loop shank on the smaller bakelite button is almost entirely covered with a turquoise or light blue corrosion or rust, presumably from years of cleaning whatever garment this was originally attached to. The metal loop shank on the larger button shows only a bit of this corrosion/rusting. On the larger button there are multiple tiny topside edge chips, with small groupings along the outside near each of the eye "points" (most of the chips are tiny dots but one is larger measuring a tad over 1/8 inch in width). There is also a tiny fingernail "nick" on the raised eye form edge on this button. Both buttons show expected light surface wear on the topsides via scratches, rubbed marks, lines, other general use/storage/age wear etc., with similar wear on the backsides. Certainly not "new" looking but nothing unexpected for vintage bakelite buttons, all supporting their age and use.
