An important and beautifully crafted large bookcase or collection cabinet. Carved by the French artist Gabriel Viardot (1830-1906) in the Chinese style. Three large glazed doors, many individually adjustable shelves, three pull-slides, and three lower cabinets. Cabinet doors inlaid with ivory birds and flowers. Figural dragon across the top and carved flaming pearl in clouds. Dates to circa 1880s.

This piece is signed by the artist Gabriel Viardot on the lower left side. He was widely exhibited including the 1851 Crystal palace and at the 1867, 1878, and 1889 International Exhibitions in Paris. His firm was awarded a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition.

This cabinet measures a total of 9 feet in height, 7-1/2 feet in width, 20 inches in depth.
