Rockingham McCoy Swastika Pitcher McCoy? Rockingham pitcher with an Indian Chinese emblem. NOTE PLEASE: The bent cross symbol has been used as an ornamental patterns for thousands of years, indeed since the Bronze age. It usually was a symbol meaning "sun" or fire" and may have been used to indicate the hammer used by Thor in Norse mythology, Though the word Swastika comes from the Sanskiit meaning "well being" the symbol has been found in ancient Polynesian and Pre-Columbian North America as well as throughout Europe and Asi.
Rockingham embossed 8 1/2" pitcher with unusual design. From the History Channel: An ancient symbol of good luck, prosperity and long life used in ancient cultures such as India and China. In India both clockwise and counterclockwise swastikas were used with different meanings.

Rockingham Flask Bottle Nude Figural Rockingham flask is embossed with 5 sided objects on both sides. The unusual marking in the center of the front within an octagon is a nude woman with long hair, possibly a mermaid. The nude appears to be holding a martini glass, her lower torso is overlaid with a "W". The flask is marked Made in Poland, there is another word printed dabove that which I am unable to decipher. A wreath of flowers above that, within the wreath are the letters "P" and "T" , the flowers also separate the "P" and the "T" The unusual aspect is the figure of a nude female (perhaps a mermaid) with long hair who appears to be holding a type of "marrtini" glass. She is centered in an octagon shape with what appears to be the letter "W" across her lower torso.. (E230)Rockingham Bennington Yellowware Yellow ware spongeware pottery stoneware

364

Rockingham German Animal Rare Dog Rockingham animal figures, the rarest among this collector field limited to the nineteenth century, some were made in England in the mid 1800's. None are considered common. All had some type Rockingham decoration. Many made in East Liverpool. This dog appears to be a pug, stamped Germany on the base. Unlike American Rockingham the clay on the base is white and has the feel of bisque however the rockingham is typical of American glaze. Approximately 6 1/2" long and 2 1/4" tall not including his fuzzy tail, that can be removed. The McAllister book also states " None of them are common, expect damage on the base." There is NO damage on this cute guy, no cracks, no dings and no hairlines. He is finely detailed with 4 teeth, a bone across his paws. 483

Yellowware With Cobalt "Wedding Ring" Bowl Yellowware bowl with numerous personal touches by the artist. ONE OF A KIND At the end of a day yellowware potters used leftover clay to make a "personal" item for family use or as a gift. These "end of the day" pieces are sought by yellowware & folk art collectors of Americana. Bowl is over 75% done in deep cobalt blue. In addition the top (almost 1" band) rim has an "arts and crafts" motif and done in cobalt with varying hues. Then bowl has several additional decorative patterns from "x" and "o" to beads, straight lines and a wonderfull large pattern of "o"s connected much like a chain. the patterns then repeat below into the cobalt. The bowl is 4" tall 8" across the top and 4" across the base. The inside shows use and actually even a "smudge" of cobalt blue! Inside there are a few glaze pops and one 2 1/2" thin hairline. AWESOME Cute small size is odd too. Yellowware Yellow Ware.

Rockingham Glaze Pig Bank This unusual piece has a very different type Rockingham like glaze, the feel is of a slightly rougher texture than usually found. The pig is approximately 5" long and 2 1/2" tall. There is a slot to drop money in, but the tiny slot on the bottom wouldn't let even a dime fall out. This may well be an end -of-day piece. Potteries would let their potters use the days left over product to make their own end-of-day piece. No chips, there is one area on his left foreleg that is rough, but not broken.
