Folk Art Handcarved Male Black Americana Folk Art Hand Signed Carved Male Figure Folk art carving 11" tall of a man who's ethnicity is questionable. A Black American gentleman? A French soldier? Then again my "accordian player" at times seems like a kindly old gent perhaps playing on a street corner in an Italian neighborhood in New York. The detail of his body is roughly done, but very deep and textured, the detail in the face and the accordian is wonderful. The accordian actually swivels in his hands! His cap looks military or organizational, but his flashy scarf belies that idea. For all his fine qualities he does have awfully big nose and feet! SIGNED on the base, hand written in pencil. I think it reads "A J Truitt 1924" In ORIGINAL condition, the wood is wonderfull, and the "stories he could tell." folk art

Painted Wooden Box Pennsylvainia Folk Art Folk Art Hand Painted Box. Primitively made shows use with minor paint wear on corners, & where the box was joined to the base.etc. Overall in WONDERFUL condition. Size is approximate, as this is a "Primitive" home made box, not a fine antique. lid 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" Height 6 1/2" Front panel 8 x 4 1/2" Notice how the "feet" are carved out. Appears to be some type of Dutch design. Box is overall deep forest green, art work is mustard yellow, rust & black. The front & back depict 4 birds each the ends show 2 actual birds & 2 "objects" that are intended to resemble birds. Inside painted black. The artwork strongly resembles the work of Pennsylvania painter David. Y. Ellinger who ruled the domain. It appears this artist respected his work & emulated his style. Ellinger's artwork was primarily done in the 1930s and 40's. A GREAT box, we have used it in several different rooms over the years it has been at home with us. Not a new reproduction piece, we really believe this to be over 60 years but probably older. See other great folk art pieces on our TIAS shop. Art folk art american woodenware painting trunk chest

Folk Art Fishing Decoy Folk art piece was used as a "Planer" rather than a downrigger, art form of a fish approximately 18" long, 3 " high and 3/4" in depth. The aged colors show actual use, this was not just a 'shelf' piece. The colors are a mustard/orange, black gills, red gills and a black eye. Is roughly carved, probably with a hand knife, possibly a decoy carving tool, but nothing fancy! Purchased on the Eastern Shore of Maryland along the Bay near "commercial fishing towns." Near the bottom there are four holes bored through the piece with two removable sticks through two holes (similar to a pick up stick) through one is tied an old rope , purpose unknown? Near the tail on each side is a red wedge that swivels, perhaps when being pulled through the water the wedges or paddles turned., there is a large bolt that connects them through the fish, At the very rear is a piece of rope that comes from ? somewhere inside the fish? and is attached to an old and dirty wooden clothespin, again purpose unknown? unless it towed some kind of bait along? This is definitely a "well used" piece, which to us increases its charm, we're glad it has survived the years, all paint is original. We guarantee you won't find another one! Folk art fishing nautical woodenware decoy lures folk art

Folk Art Original Paint Tool Box Signed Follk Art Tool Box with original yellow paint the owner/ maker signed the front of the box in large, lighter yellow printed letters: R. MENARD The box was made from various pieces of wood, possibly shipping crates but our "artist" added touches like the wide molding at the base and added a "fancy touch" of an additional piece of wood on top of the box and leather handle. The metal clasp on the front keeps the box shut. The box is definitely a "well used" carrier but unusual to find a tool box PAINTED, much less yellow! The "wood from the crates" appears to be stamped "Carne Conservado" which may be known to advertising collectors. The box is approximately 20" wide 8" high and 11 1/2" deep. Nailed together. It is a wonderfully decorative piece of folk art and serves its owner still by storing treasures, or what ever you choose! This wooden work of folk art has decorated our home for several years in many places, serving many functions. Not the usual run of the mill wooden tool boxes, you will likely never see another like this. Folk art chest woodeware

Mallard Duck Decoy Trio Original Paint Folk Decoys from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, home of the famous carvers the Ward Brothers. Unusual set of 3 male mallard duck decoys discovered 15 years ago at a swap meet at the Ward Brothers Museum on the Eastern Shore Original Paint in wonderful condition so I don't think they saw too much water time, guaranteed authentic. This is one of those folk art items I could keep forever but our collections have to be thinned out. The mallards are connected with hinges, 2 of the screws are missing. Each mallard is 16 3/4" long and slightly over 4 1/2" in height. The base they sit on is 16 1/4" in length and almost 2" tall so overall 6 3/4" in height and 16 `3/4" in length. When fully open with two ducks beak to beak and the 3rd right angle out from the center, they are approximately 35 1/2" in length. They display just as well with them open just a few inches each so they can be displayed on a smaller base. The colors are yellow/mustard beaks, green heads, brown. grey. black and green bodies. The paint is worn from use but only slightly so, overall the paint is in very VERY good conditon. Maker is unknown, they are not signed, they were made for real "duck hunting" use. I doubt you will find another trio like this! Decoy folk art

Folk Art Hand Carved Pair Black Americana Old Folks Hand carved figures of a Black American man and woman. I have single carvings but it is unusual to find a pair. She is 8" tall he is 7.5" tall if you note the depth of the bases, hers is also a shorter base making her even taller than he. There is a pencil notation that I can not read on her base, it seems too be No 630. They are very intricate, she has a very large nose. Note the tiny dots on her skirt. She has a hold through her clenched hand, she probably had a stick for walking there at one time. He is also a dapper dresser. Note his colorful dotted tie. My guess would be from the late 40s or early 50s. The carver evidently took great pride in his work I determined that from the elegant postures and clothing. Black America folk art

Black American Boy & Girl Dolls Black Americana folk art, homemade Black American boy and girl dolls. They have cousins #429. Dated 1935-1945 as seen in PJ Gibbs 1993 book "Black Collectibles Sold In America" These doll patterns were sold to American mothers, These four Black American dolls seem to be of the same pattern, each with their own creator's charm. This pair of dolls are 16-17"s tall. Adorable hand embroidered faces, even little seems on the sides give them "chubby cheek" looks. Sought after features by collectors of Black American dolls: embroidered features, details like cheeks, thumbs, even embroidered toes, hair sewn very well, even 1 pigtail on the Black American girl doll. Attire attributes: embroidered dress design, trim, apron. Black American dolls great condition, their only flaw are slightly limp necks, that occurred when the dolls were carried over a child's arm, and the head if not stuffed enough began to tilt over.
