Black Americana Oyster Dredging In The Chesapeake Bay
Black Americana Engraving Mine Oyster Dredging Boats In The Chesapeake (Bay) Black Americana hung in our home 20 years, professionally framed & matted. Accompanying card: : Authentic Antique Print Professionally Hand Colored American History Depicted In Engravings From Illustrated Antique Weeklies. From mid 1800's to turn of the century before many could read, extremely popular illustrated newspapers such as Harper's Weekly and Frank Leslie"s Illustrated pictured the news and events of the times. Special artist-correspondents were present at the event to accurately sketch the scene as it was making hisory. These sketches were rushed to the East Coast publishers whereby skilled artisans engraved them on wood blocks. Within a week after the event the printed illustrated newspapers were in the publics hands. Today their value to collectors is twofold, as historically accurate records, and as exquisitely engeraved works of art. At the side it says: Supplement, March 16, 1872 Harpers Weekly. Below: Mine Oyster Dredging Boats In The Chesapeake (See page 220) To the far right is regarding a story. There's an ink smudge upper right corner. Far left under the way is the artists name W.L. Sheppard Del. Beautifully done there are 12 men shown in 4 boats. Crossover collectible for the collectors of Black Memorabilia and those collecting oyster tins & advertising as well as those interested in the Chesapeake Bay. 15 1/2" wide 10 1/2" across, the frame is 20 1/2" x 15 1/4".cross, the frame is 20 1/2" x 15 1/4".About 5 lbs unpackaged. Art Pencil Sketch 1930 Mountain Art
Art 1930's artwork, a pencil sketch of what appears to be a 3 tiered building, but is actually a rock formation. The pencil entry to the lower left of the print states " Suggested by "Tre ?he? Dolomite" my take on that is "Three ? Dolomite" referring a a "mountain or rock formation with 3 tall spires. To the lower right the artist signed "Wm. ??ander? Da or De" "1930" I am sorry that I am unable to make this any clearer, but I am sure someone out there may have more information. The print is 7" x 9 1/2" an odd size, with a "homemade mat" and what appears to be a "homemade frame" oak, bevelled edges. It gives one a "southwestern feel" but may be "french" or at least "french inspired" based on the language. Art

Black American Signed 1920s Pencil Sketch
Black Americana framed pencil sketch of a Black American gentleman in some type of uniform. My guess is this was done in the 1920s - to - 1940s by "E. Jacobs" titled "Mino'o"The frame size is 26" tall 20 1/4" wide. The picture area is 17" tall 13" wide. It's very unusual in that the man has a top hat sitting beside him, his coat has tails. Was he a coachman? There is a wide strap across his left shoulder. He is holding a book. He appears to be in the middle years of his life. He has some baldness & curls above his ears. He has a pleasant smile. There's about an 1 1/2" damaged paper area at the top that is from aging paper, another area on the front of the bench and 2 or 3 pinpoint areas on floor. There's a dark spot near his left shoulder, don't have a clue what caused that. I think the picture has been in this frame since the day it was completed. The artist signed his name at the far left corner of the bench and the title is in the lowest left corner. We prefer to ship this professionally packaged you will pay exact shipping costs. Advertising Art Primitive Cartoon Bar Sign
Advertising Folk art or Advertising, it's a hard call. This wood framed cartoon is 15" across, 10 3/4" tall.. At the top it says" Bar-X- Ranch". Under that it says " We serve Brown-Forman famous Kentucky whiskies. On the mirror is printed "Bottoms up" "Early TImes" "OLD FORESTER" There are 5 people sketched, the little man on the left has an arrow leading to his head that says "Little Sammy" the bartender "Jim" next "Bert" then "His Royal Highness President Morris" and lastly "Hook". The bottles on the bar are marked "Old Forester, Bottom Up" The register says "No Sale" the title below the men says "Waiting for a Live ONe" and under that "If Ed McGettigan would only pay his dollar." By the dog in the lower rights it says "mascot". The picture to the left is a boxer, below it says "Skip McSorley" and on the right under the woman on the calender "Floor show". From the frame and the masonite backboard that may have been added later, I am guessing this is from the 40s, or early 50s and likely hung in a bar where the patrons Jim, Morris, Hook, Bert & Ed hung out. Thre is some yellowing or browning around the edges of the picture, from age? smoke? or possibly just dirt that could be removed, it doesn't look out of place tho on the type of paper, we've enjoyed its humor in our home "as is". on the back is a typed paper that states "103rd headquarters Troop Club Newton Square Penn. Edwin Blair joined in 1939" cartoon art primitive folk art barware
