Rug, Hooked Rug folk art. Beautiful work, great color, good condition. 25" x 45" beautiful bright colors. (Note: Photos make it look soiled, there is actually very minor discoloration in lighter areas of the background color. Minor fraying of little threads here & there nothing very obvious. ( An area I first though an old repair 5 " from bottom edge in black & about 10" from side, it's just black thread, may be removed without incident.) Painted Wooden Box Pennsylvainia Folk Art
Folk Art Hand Painted Box. Primitively made shows use with minor paint wear on corners, & where the box was joined to the base.etc. Overall in WONDERFUL condition. Size is approximate, as this is a "Primitive" home made box, not a fine antique. lid 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" Height 6 1/2" Front panel 8 x 4 1/2" Notice how the "feet" are carved out. Appears to be some type of Dutch design. Box is overall deep forest green, art work is mustard yellow, rust & black. The front & back depict 4 birds each the ends show 2 actual birds & 2 "objects" that are intended to resemble birds. Inside painted black. The artwork strongly resembles the work of Pennsylvania painter David. Y. Ellinger who ruled the domain. It appears this artist respected his work & emulated his style. Ellinger's artwork was primarily done in the 1930s and 40's. A GREAT box, we have used it in several different rooms over the years it has been at home with us. Not a new reproduction piece, we really believe this to be over 60 years but probably older. See other great folk art pieces on our TIAS shop. Art folk art american woodenware painting trunk chest

Folk Art Fishing Decoy
Folk art piece was used as a "Planer" rather than a downrigger, art form of a fish approximately 18" long, 3 " high and 3/4" in depth. The aged colors show actual use, this was not just a 'shelf' piece. The colors are a mustard/orange, black gills, red gills and a black eye. Is roughly carved, probably with a hand knife, possibly a decoy carving tool, but nothing fancy! Purchased on the Eastern Shore of Maryland along the Bay near "commercial fishing towns." Near the bottom there are four holes bored through the piece with two removable sticks through two holes (similar to a pick up stick) through one is tied an old rope , purpose unknown? Near the tail on each side is a red wedge that swivels, perhaps when being pulled through the water the wedges or paddles turned., there is a large bolt that connects them through the fish, At the very rear is a piece of rope that comes from ? somewhere inside the fish? and is attached to an old and dirty wooden clothespin, again purpose unknown? unless it towed some kind of bait along? This is definitely a "well used" piece, which to us increases its charm, we're glad it has survived the years, all paint is original. We guarantee you won't find another one! Folk art fishing nautical woodenware decoy lures folk art

Advertising Art Primitive Cartoon Bar Sign
Advertising Folk art or Advertising, it's a hard call. This wood framed cartoon is 15" across, 10 3/4" tall.. At the top it says" Bar-X- Ranch". Under that it says " We serve Brown-Forman famous Kentucky whiskies. On the mirror is printed "Bottoms up" "Early TImes" "OLD FORESTER" There are 5 people sketched, the little man on the left has an arrow leading to his head that says "Little Sammy" the bartender "Jim" next "Bert" then "His Royal Highness President Morris" and lastly "Hook". The bottles on the bar are marked "Old Forester, Bottom Up" The register says "No Sale" the title below the men says "Waiting for a Live ONe" and under that "If Ed McGettigan would only pay his dollar." By the dog in the lower rights it says "mascot". The picture to the left is a boxer, below it says "Skip McSorley" and on the right under the woman on the calender "Floor show". From the frame and the masonite backboard that may have been added later, I am guessing this is from the 40s, or early 50s and likely hung in a bar where the patrons Jim, Morris, Hook, Bert & Ed hung out. Thre is some yellowing or browning around the edges of the picture, from age? smoke? or possibly just dirt that could be removed, it doesn't look out of place tho on the type of paper, we've enjoyed its humor in our home "as is". on the back is a typed paper that states "103rd headquarters Troop Club Newton Square Penn. Edwin Blair joined in 1939" cartoon art primitive folk art barware

Mallard Duck Decoy Trio Original Paint Folk
Decoys from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, home of the famous carvers the Ward Brothers. Unusual set of 3 male mallard duck decoys discovered 15 years ago at a swap meet at the Ward Brothers Museum on the Eastern Shore Original Paint in wonderful condition so I don't think they saw too much water time, guaranteed authentic. This is one of those folk art items I could keep forever but our collections have to be thinned out. The mallards are connected with hinges, 2 of the screws are missing. Each mallard is 16 3/4" long and slightly over 4 1/2" in height. The base they sit on is 16 1/4" in length and almost 2" tall so overall 6 3/4" in height and 16 `3/4" in length. When fully open with two ducks beak to beak and the 3rd right angle out from the center, they are approximately 35 1/2" in length. They display just as well with them open just a few inches each so they can be displayed on a smaller base. The colors are yellow/mustard beaks, green heads, brown. grey. black and green bodies. The paint is worn from use but only slightly so, overall the paint is in very VERY good conditon. Maker is unknown, they are not signed, they were made for real "duck hunting" use. I doubt you will find another trio like this! Decoy folk art
