Quilt York County Pa. Americana Folk Art Quilt, Folk Art. Quilt York County Americana.
Purchased in Berks County Penns. Much more info. about this quilt available on request.
Part of a Quilt Documenation Project Certificate of Participation included.
Attached tag that is to "permanently identify the quilt as having provenance in York County. #T-48-1" The quilt is 70" x 65". The decorations consist of tobacco flags. There are 24 1/2 American Flags, 1 Irish, 2 Boston, 1 Indiana and 10 others that appear to have some significance to American Indian design.
The project's goal was to discover what best represented quilts in York County Pennsylvania, not only through the beauty and character of their tops, but also through the composition and component of the individual quilt.
This quilt called a "novelty" quilt may have been owned by someone who owned or worked at a store selling cigars, the project documented its date to around 1900.A fad in quilting even developed from the introduction of a new material when cigar and cigarette manufacturerd recognized the market potential of incuding flannel patched in their product packages. Women used these to make quilts encouraging the purchase of more tobacco. Folk art quilt americana primitives textiles Request more info. Quilt Folk Arr

American Handmade Quilt American art, a beautiful handmade quilt with multi-colored wheel designs. Each wheel is made of 17 individual hand applied pieces of vintage fabric to make the wheel, sewn with a yellow circle center. Each sewn to the creamy yellow background, with bright yellow edging. Near one of the wheels there is a stain that I think was blood when the quilter stuck her finger, it is faint, about an inch long, 1/2" wide. Probably made in the 50s, has been laundered. In very good condition. No odors. Textiles vintage fabric quilt quilts quilt
