Attached tag that is to "permanently identify the quilt as having provenance in York County. #T-48-1" The quilt is 70" x 65".

The decorations consist of tobacco flags. There are 24 1/2 American Flags, 1 Irish, 2 Boston, 1 Indiana and 10 others that appear to have some significance to American Indian design. The project's goal was to discover what best represented quilts in York County Pennsylvania, not only through the beauty and character of their tops, but also through the composition and component of the individual quilt. This quilt called a "novelty" quilt may have been owned by someone who owned or worked at a store selling cigars, the project documented its date to around 1900.A fad in quilting even developed from the introduction of a new material when cigar and cigarette manufacturerd recognized the market potential of incuding flannel patched in their product packages.
