| Appears to be some type of Dutch design. Box is overall deep forest green, art work is mustard yellow, rust & black. The front & back depict 4 birds each the ends show 2 actual birds & 2 "objects" that are intended to resemble birds. Inside painted black. The artwork strongly resembles the work of Pennsylvania painter David. Y. Ellinger who ruled the domain. It appears this artist respected his work & emulated his style. Ellinger's artwork was primarily done in the 1930s and 40's. A GREAT box, we have used it in several different rooms over the years it has been at home with us. Not a new reproduction piece, we really believe this to be over 60 years but probably older. See other great folk art pieces on our TIAS shop. Art folk art american woodenware painting trunk chest |
