73x43" Very old, possibly late 18th, early 19th century oil painting on canvas, of young Hebrew women, sharing water with a Jacob, as the shepherds watch in the background. Rachel seems to fancy this traveler, while her sister Leah looks on disdainfully. One friend seems to enjoy Rachel's delight, the other has an, (your asking for trouble look) & is ignoring it. The painting has been remounted on masonite board, is in excellent original condition, has no signature, possibly lost during the preservation. The frame is old, (not as) & has also been restored to fit the painting. Probably from an old Synagogue. I've included a closeup of the fabric to show you it's antiquity. |
