Blade is 11 5/8" overall 16 3/8" Turns out this is an very old Slaughterhouse Abattoir Killing Knife.Found amongst a collection of Victorian farm tools, it blended right in. This is had wrought & made by a highly skilled blacksmith. It is very strong material, shows pitting from long time use, possible burial, & is in excellent as collected original condition. Obviously made for the last moments to be swift & sure. The hand grip would have been secure as any flexibility would render the weapon dangerous to it's user. There was an attempt in the last 50 years or so to polish it & sharpen the tip. Thanks again for you ever diligent ebayers helping me identify this tool. This is an antique killing knife used to sever the spinal cord just behind the head of a steer. Yuk, & i'm a vegetarian. |
