Howard Pierce Porcelain

California art pottery by Howard Pierce. Pierce created most of his art from nature, focusing on birds and animals. He also made a few human figurines and vases. His art spans a period of over 50 years, from the opening of his inital studio in 1941 till his death in 1994. Pierce's pieces have a distinctive look that is easily recognized.

Ostrich pair, or maybe geese. These birds have really long necks. 11" high and 8-1/2" high. Gray and black markings. The finish is smooth, but not as high a gloss as some of my other pieces. The large bird is marked Howard Pierce Porcelain. This mark was used in the 50's. Ref: California Pottery Second Edition by Jack Chipman, pg.211.

Quail mother hen with two chicks. Brown with flecked design on chests of birds. The flecked design was done with a toothbrush. Mother hen is marked Howard Pierce. 6" high, 4"high and 2-1/2". A must for a Howard Pierce collection. This was the most common of the Pierce pieces.
