It is an"authorized copy of the original in the Metropolitan Museum of Art" and comes with a certificate of authenticity to that effect . The plaque is made of cast bronze and is approx.

| 5 1/4" in diameter and weighs approx. 12 oz. It is marked on the back "A METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART REPRODUCTION" It also has what seems to be a maker's mark but we can't make it out. The certificate reads: " BRONZE PLAQUE - ANCIENT NEAR EAST, ABOUT 500BC.- METALWORK FROM THE NEAR EAST FREQUENTLY BEARS STRIKING GEOMETRIC PATTERNS LIKE THIS SERIES OF SPRIALS. ALTHOUGH ITS ORIGINAL FUNCTION IS UNKNOWN, THIS PLAQUE MAY HAVE BEEN A PENDANT. THE MUSEUM'S FACSIMILE, CAST IN SOLID BRONZE , HAS BEEN FITTED WITH LEGS ON THE UNDERSIDE AND SERVES AS A HANDSOME AND UNUSUAL TRIVET. - THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART - ROGERS FUND 1921. IT is made by the Facsimile and Reproduction Division of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York. |
