This wonderful box is a papier mache box
with a handsome aristocratic gentleman on the cover. Condition: Very Good. No chips or cracks The box is lined with newspaper adverts of the times. Age:Contemporary Size:12½ H x 5½ W x 1½ D Weight: Approx. 9 oz. Light weight box probably made out of a heavier cardboard and Papier Mache.

ELABORATELY DETAILED ORIENTAL MUSIC BOX - Size: 2-1/2 Inches H x 7 Inches L x 4 Inches W. Condition: Good to Very Good. There are some minor scratches along the smooth metal rim on the lid under the dragons. And a tiny black mark on the Buddha's left cheek. There is a lock, but no key. The orange velvet material inside is in good condtion but somewhat soiled or aged & does not fit in tightly. If the box is put upside down the tiger is loose. Weight: Almost 3 lbs. Age: My best guess is mid 1900's. Material: Silvertoned metal with goldtoned & red colored accents with a red celluloid or plastic background. The box is elaborately detailed with Dragons, Winged Lions, Temples & a Golden Buddha. The inside has a wonderful detailed face of a tiger or other large cat over the music portion. The inside lid and container section is lined with a muted colored orange velvet type material. The bottom of the box has a nicely detailed design with a dragon embossed in the center. The key to wind the music box and embosed in small letters MADE IN JAPAN. There is black metal showing through on the bottom. The music plays - I do not know the tune. This is a very handsome and elaborate box. All in all it makes a very good appearance.

ANTIQUE CARVED HINGED WOODEN BOX - CHINESE - Size: 12 Inches Long x 4 Inches Deep x 3 Inches High. Age: Early 20th Century. Condition: Good with the exception of damage to one end. A portion of the carving is missing front to back and a slice of the interior of the box is open when box is closed. I have tried to show this in photo #5. The latch has a very tight fit, but is workable. Otherwise the box is in very good condition. The box is made in four sections. The lid is in two levels and the bottom has the carving in one section and the very bottom of the box is another. There are faint oriental characters stamped on the bottom of the box. I can not make these out. The artistry of the box is meticulously crafted with a scene of Junks with sails on the river with bridges and houses on the bank.

The head and hat lift off to uncover inside storage compartment
Size: Wood figure: 5¾ H x 1½ in diameterInside Storage: 1 in diameter - bottom half storage: 2¼ H top half is 1½ H = 4 inches H to store a solid object. Condition: Good for the wood. Fair for the paint It has a nice patina and the colors are still very visible.
Markings: Bottom is marked Germany
This is quite an old piece and he does have a great deal of personality.

PAIR WOODEN ORIENTAL HEADS/BOXES
Size: 6 Inches H (with lid) x 3 Inches W. Height without lid is 4-1/4 Inches.
Depth: 2-1/2 Inches. Inside: 3-1/8 Inches Deep x 1-3/4 Inches W.
Age: Undetermined. Found at an Estate Sale.
Condition: Very Good with the exception of a split on the base of one of the heads in the back. This is shown in the photos. It can not be seen when displayed facing front and does not weaken the piece.
There are oriental marks on each of the pieces, which could be a signature.
