The Duchess of Windsor was I believe responsible for popularizing the square-cut amber stone. Hers were precious topaz--lesser mortals like you and I made do with the citrine, sold as 'topaz'in its day. It, along with the amethyst and aquamarine (precious now, plentiful and cheap then), came in nice big crystals and could be sold at a fairly moderate price. This one is a lovely champagne color, over an inch long and a half-inch wide. It's mounted in a wonderful rose gold basket setting. This was a cocktail or dinner ring, worn out in the evening. It is in impeccable condition. |
