| I don't BEGIN to know how to describe this! There's innumerable pieces of tortoise heated and folded to lock together forming the belt itself--a HEAVY tortoise shell 'buckle' formed of two pieces--a solid back and pierced front which has abalone let into the openings; the two pieces are pinned together. The closure is a gold-washed brass piece, intricately chased, which clasps over the brass ring . This piece has a 1915 patent date. This MAY BE A REPLACEMENT for an earlier tortoise HOOK, as I see the remnants of 'something' in that area. It fit a 34" waist OR fell below the waist as a girdle. It's in FINE condition, with all of its original gloss and transparency--I see one unobrusive flaw on the piece just to the right of the buckle. |
